We also need to think; why would they do this? It's not like we're flushed with defensemen as of right now.

Fabbro was making 2.5 mil, so could this be a move to make room for a trade?

If this were the case, why not just include Fabbro in the trade. I wouldn't think that he'd have negative value.

Hope the Sharks pick him up.

I have less issue with this due to Fabbro's quality--I like him and think he can put in a shift but also has some clear gaps in his game--but more why go through the process of keeping him around, tying up $2.5M cap on him, etc...

The writing has been on the wall since the season after Hynes paired him with Josi all year.

It's just awful roster and asset management.

Maybe the team they are trading with don't have the extra 2.5 lying space lying around.
Perhaps that's why he's risking it. If teams don't have space to trade for him, then they don't have space to claim him. Still, it's a huge gamble because some other team that does have room could claim him just to flip him to a team that wants him once they make room.

I can only imagine that Trotz is risking it to send a message to the team to play the way that the coach expects, but if it doesn't work, then it's just bad asset management, like with Tolvanen.

The jokes write themselves this year. Carrier pinches too deep and overskates the puck leading to a 2 on 1? Lauzon goes for a hit that leaves him wildly out position? Tomasino merely chooses to exist on the roster? "Dante, we're gonna need a deep dive on your poor choices by next game-day so you can reflect on what you've done. By the way, pack your bags, there's definitely 6 defenders on this roster that are better."

Ridiculous hyperbole aside, the only answer I would accept for Fabbro getting basically no ice time would be an absurdly crappy attitude or some sort of off the ice issues. I figure the FO would have already done something though if that was the case.
