Chemistry with a healthier roster is definitely a concern. We need to not lose this vibe we have going right now.
I think Hextall needs to clear out some of this dead weight like JR did, and give a chance for guys like O'Connor, Zohorna and Angello to establish themselves.
JR did that in 2016, the lineup at the start of the year was something like:
Kunitz-Crosby-Kessel
Perron-Malkin-Hornqvist
Plotnikov-Bonino-Bennett
Fehr-Cullen-Sprong
He threw aside Plotnikov, Bennett and Sprong, which gave chances to guys like Rust, Sheary, Kuhnhackl and Wilson. For that to happen again this year, JR needs to start thinning out these bad depth guys to give a chance for the young guys. That means guys like Jankowski, Sceviour, Lafferty (he's in this category at this point IMO) and maybe even ERod (or at least make ERod an extra).
