Oilers look to have hit on one here. London's leading scorer among forwards and a PPG in his D+1 through the first month of the season is a nice return on a 7th round pick.

I kind of think @LeProspector is onto something here. He’s literally only 13 points in 13 games. That’s like the minimum you’d expect for a 6’0 forward in their D+1 to be on track to potentially reaching the NHL. And if he’s a bad skater, the scoring may need to be better than it is. Not bad for round 7, but not as if he has like 20 or 25 points right now. I’m not sure I’d predict he plays any NHL games at this point.

He's really not that small or a bad skater. I would even call him a good skater this year. He's finally playing with the pace and confidence that he demonstrated flashes of as a 16 year old.

He won't see powerplay time either due to London's depth, so he would have a better points-per-game on a team where he's slotted in on the first line/powerplay unit.

He’s also leading all forwards in scoring on London, which is no small feat. I wouldn’t say he’s slow either, he’s got good in-zone quickness and combines that with excellent hockey sense to beat out “faster” players for lanes and pucks.

Sure, it would be nice if he had 20-25 points right now, but that would put him top ten in league scoring which I doubt even his biggest fan expects. More realistic is he finishes near 1 PPG this season and then takes off on his D+2 when he is that first line/PP option like @Starry Knight says.

Nicholl up to 6-13-19 in 17 games after posting 1-3-4 this afternoon. Still leads London in points by forwards.

Nicholl has kept up his strong D+1 with 26 points in 26 games (and still 26 minutes to go in an 8-0 shellacking of the Ottawa 67s). He now has more goals and assists than in his previous 70 OHL games. Pretty good results for a 7th rounder.

Nicholl is now up to over a PPG (12-20-32 in 31 games) and will get a chance to take the reins in London with Dickinson, Cowan and Bonk gone to the WJC. This is a great test and a great preview of what he'll have to deal with next year when all three graduate.
