F Rodion Amirov (2020, 15th, TOR) - tragically passed away due to brain tumor 8/14/23

He is the just the sort of player that the Leafs need. Talented, with speed and power, and on a ELC. Wonder how soon he can Come over? 22-23?

I believe he signed a two year extension in Russia that covers the 21-22 and 22-23 seasons. So I am expecting him over for the 23-24 season.

I'd be more than fine with Amirov playing next season in Russia. Two year extension wouldn't be the end of the world but I'd prefer him to be in North America for 2022-23.

Zero chance that they will wait three years to bring him over imo. Zero chance.

1 more year max, but more likely he comes over after this season.

I mean it isn't fully up to the Leafs. If he signs a two year extension then he isnt coming over for 2 years. Just the way it is

I trust zeke. I think it makes sense for the Leafs to bring him over after this year and get him acclimated to NA game in the AHL and give him a fair shot at training camp next year. We're going to need ELCs in the lineup over the next few years and quality ones at that. I think it makes too much sense for us to try and slide him into our lineup within the next 2 years, perhaps as soon as next season. He's NHL ready at this point, just needs to play bigger minutes which he's not going to get in the KHL. AHL we can ensure he gets ice time and can refine his offensive game more and learn to be the go-to guy. We did it with Nylander too. He was toiling on trash teams in the SHL and was on the verge of losing quality playing time and we brought him over and slotted him as the top C for the Marlies.

He's a winger but otherwise, sounds good.

Nylander was a C when he was brought over. He's a W right now because we don't want to plug 6.9 mil as 3C. But yes, Rodion is a top 6 LW and probably a top LW on the Marlies should he make it there.

What a point to him to come and play in the AHL, if he can play in the KHL for 5-10 times bigger money?
