I still believe in Moore as a middle six guy who can play up the lineup as a wing and be a difference maker on a good team. He makes plays with the puck and generates chances at a pretty high clip that yes, he struggles to finish, but it isn't as if there is no offense to speak of. Plenty of development runway left there and still really good tools to work with

I'd much rather be having the discussion about Perreault's scoring translating or not, I'll tell you that. But that is also water under the bridge. Nothing we can do about it now, just have to hope for the best possible outcome for Moore.

Not really good comp

Moore is far better defensively while Skille was guy who would throw body/grind type (Why he still made it around NHL as a 4th line winger for years)
Thanks for that clarification.
Well if we can get him to win draws consistently, I think he has quite a bit of utility
for us going forward.

All I remember about this pick from draft day is how jealous everyone else was that we landed him after also just landing Bedard, and some called him the 2C of our future, praised the pick as a steal in the mid-late 1st round.

Now here we are and things seem to have flipped. Nobody seems to like the pick/his outlook.

Just goes to show how nobody knows a damn thing about anything.

Moore always had a really high floor. Ultimately if you walk out of a mid 1st with a useful bottom 6 piece you don’t hate it. This is also why it’s very important to stockpile assets in a rebuild. You don’t exactly have to bank on one kid specifically being a 2C when you pick 10 times in the first in 4 years (especially with 2 of those being centers drafted in a similar range as Moore)

He does display a puck hound mentality in the clips I see…never a bad thing. He’s a bit of a disruptor on the forecheck…that fraction of a second less for the opposition to make a play. Leads to turnovers.

Exactly.. hopefully he's able to couple the speed with some hockey sense so that he doesn't just fly around out there like a chicken with its head cut off.

I try and not get too up or down on prospects. We dont know how the coach is using him, etc. Perhaps he is doing what the coach asks for the position he is in. I hope he leaves MN after this year and plays in rockford with Lardis next year.

It can go the other way just as easily. Did anyone forsee Hagel's improvements? Verhaeghe? Hyman? Barbashev?

But if all Moore ever does is learn to use his speed to open space, his puck hound abilities to flip the ice and take away pucks, and just generally create chaos out there for his teammates to follow up, that's going to be a really good weapon for our team.

The guy is 20 years old. You're telling me there is no chance he can develop any of that in the next 5 years before he hits his prime?

Say we end up with Misa and they hit it off with Bedard. You wouldn't want the above player to play on their wings? I would be beyond content.

Moore is one of the very very many forward prospects we have. People are just worried because we don't have the blue chips next to Bedard yet. We get a Misa and a 26 top 5 forward, and all of a sudden Moore is a super nice depth piece projecting.

Nothing hinges on Oliver. He doesn't need to be a world breaker.

I wish people gave it time for things to fall into place before declaring things. How many times do we have to see improvements out of nowhere in this league to become properly patient?

Moore has the most important quality - motor and heart. He has ridiculous physical tools as well. I like his changes.

(I'm using Royal Yous, not specifically addressing You sorry).

Moore's problem isn't if he improve his skill. In fact, I definitely think he can and will improve his shot for example. I just don't know if he can ever improve his hockey sense. I don't know if he will think the game as fast as his feet will keep up with it.

Not everyone.

I just think people are going to be quite whelmed. Don't expect Moore to be 2C, and honestly I wouldn't even expect him to be 3C.

I think he'll make it as a 4C, 3W.

I’ve lost faith in the 2C projection but I still think he can be a very good two way 3C.

He works hard and skates well.

Hagel had those same qualities and netted us two 1sts (one of which, ironically enough, was used on Moore). Slaggert has those as well and is quickly earning fans' trust.

And just like Hagel and Slaggert, Moore has been overlooked and underappreciated as a prospect. Cross our fingers his play wins us over when he eventually arrives.

I had Moore ranked 7th on my board

Nothing has really conflicted with that so far

Only 6 guys from this draft class are in the NHL

I feel like a lot of people here are going to be very surprised when they see Moore play in a Hawks uniform. His hockey IQ is just not NHL calibre. Like as of right now (at least offensively) it's worse than Athanasiou. Noticeably worse. He can only make a play if it's right in front of him and even then half the time he just fires an inaccurate bomb of a pass. Zero deception, planning or manipulation to his game. Watching him carry the puck in on a 3 on 2 and try to make a play at WJC caused me physical pain.

He also doesn't really tilt the ice like people here seem to assume of him for some reason. He's a ghost most games I've seen of him.

Again, maybe he's stuck in a developmental rut and he climbs out of it but the odds are certainly not in his favour right now. Enough tools to play on a fourth line on day? Sure. Third line? I have my doubts.

The way I see it the formula for winning is pretty simple: you need 4 impact forwards.
Kane Toews Hossa Sharp.
Crosby malkin guentzel kessel
Landeskog Rantanen Mackinnon Kadri
Reinhart Tkachuk Barlow Verhaeghe

We have one in the bag and another on the way in this draft. You need two from a crop of: Nazar Kantserov Lardis Moore Boisvert Vanacker Reichel TML 1st
rounder Dach.

It’s really not that big of a deal if Moore is a buzzing 3rd line forechecker. My money is on Nazar Bedard and Misa(or whoever) and then a Free Agent or Trade pickup.

In other words, the Hawks don’t NEED Moore to be anything special. It’s a solid pick that late in the first. Not much to be worked up about.
