F Nate Danielson - Brandon Wheat Kings, WHL (2023, 9th, DET)

2 points in the last game. 0 points In the previous 9. Weird flex

You can look at the score sheet and say that. But he's looking offensively dangerous and is going up against top competition in the league. If he keeps playing the way TM has him playing, then no worries the points will come.

It's been 7 games since a coaching change. Kasper was on the 4th line for 4 or 5 of those. Since Todd unleashed him, he's looked poised and dangerous.

Stat sheets tell 20% of the story. Eyes tell you the other 80%.

Kasper's style of game reminds me of Henrik Zetterberg. He'll never put up Zetterberg's numbers and shouldn't be expected to, but it's wild to watch!

Full time NHLer next year or back to the A for at least part of 2025-26?
He's been better offensively than Kasper this year, and is a bit older at the start of next season. He's one of the more detail oriented prospects in the league as well. As long as he has a solid camp/preseason I would be surprised if he's not on the team. There's going to be more young guys pushing for a spot next season though, Danielson, Lombardi, Mazur, maybe Nygaard as well. Kasper didn't have as much competition this season

A big playoff for Grand Rapids would help a lot too.

Doesn't appear to have done much this season. Are his linemates mediocre?

The whole team went through a funk when the Wings called up a bunch of players. They were pretty toothless for a good month. Seem to have found their footing bit more the last week or so. Adding ASP and Nygaard will help. They can win a couple rounds if they have a full line up.

The red wings org doesn’t really seem to develop players in the same way internet people want them to. It’s never flashy. Kasper had what seemed like a very underwhelming season in the AHL but he worked on his complete game and now he’s in the NHL and scoring 20 goals. Edvinsson was good but not incredible last year in the AHL and now he’s has 31 even strength points in the NHL. Point is, I trust how we develop players under Yzerman. Everyone complains about the lack of points and how these guys don’t see the world on fire in the AHL but all scouts and avid griffins watchers seem to lament at how good of an overall game Danielson plays. If there’s anything to critique about him it’s his motor and enthusiasm. Sometimes it just seems like he’s missing the extra gear that guys like kasper had, he doesn’t like to try to take over games. but I wouldn’t say Danielson has been underwhelming this season by any metrics.

In the bit I've caught I completely agree with the sentiment that he doesn't come across as a Kasper/Mazur type motor guy.

Total stud on the defensive side of the puck, and I say this also in large part to how he creates impressive amounts of transition just from reading and breaking up plays 150-200 feet from the opposing net and making something happen with it

He's a player that uses his teammates well and picturing him moving the puck around with other high IQ players in Detroit has me thinking he has some untapped offensive potential. Very detail oriented player

I do disagree about the lack of motor part, he is a non-stop worker defensively and he's spoken about that part of the game being his favourite. Offensively, he's spoken of early on this season having to adjust his game since there's been less space in the AHL than there was in junior. Looks to me like he been learning to slow play down and then change pace to create his offense with deception

He could surely be a 3C in the NHL next year but probably cast in a more defensive role to start. The roster has a lot of questions in terms of its makeup come October

Based off absolutely nothing. So this should fit right in here. Here goes. Danielson will start day 1 next season and we'll never see the AHL again.

Are we really doing the Seider, Raymond, Edvinsson and Kasper thing again.
Yes. They will do it for ASP and MBN too. Despite every single Yzerman first rounder in Detroit proving each of these guys wrong over and over we will repeat this pattern because people love fantasizing about the demise of the red wings b

Yzerman has done a good job of drafting two way guys who can fit up and down a lineup even if their production ceiling isn't super high. Raymond was a pure skill bet (and his defensive ability is pretty damn solid) and that's worked, I expect Sandin Pellikka to translate pretty well. Wings just need to hit some triples/home runs/grand slams on picks outside of the 1st round, and we might see that with Lombardi, Buchelnikov, Augustine, & Finnie down the road.

Danielson should fit in the Wings lineup pretty nicely, we'll just have to see if his offense translates well right away like Kasper's or if it takes longer.

Agree. Still think guys like Kasper and Raymond are being slept on heavy. Danielson we'll see how he translates, but Kasper is looking pretty well on track to be a Kesler 2.0 based on his play in the 2nd half of this season. Raymond is the first U23 Swedish player to score 80 points since Nicklas Backstrom - Nylander didn't do it, Pettersson didn't do it. Yet you have people acting like he's reached his peak.

He is also solid defensively as you point out. A slighty less dynamic but stronger Marner is a good comparison. He hits 100 points next year if the Wings can ice a competent top 4 (i.e. sign Gavrikov and ASP translates well).

Seems like another good player but not a star level guy. Wings have this level already. They need a couple stars (one offensive guy in D and an elite 1C) might be good timing to use this prospect as capital in trade?

Why do that? There's nothing wrong with having multiple of "this player". You don't need a star to win a cup--look at 2019.

If there's someone available, sure. Not sure that there are any elite 1Cs around for trade lol. Who would you suggest?

Eichel is the only one in recent memory I can remember.

There's no use in trading him for a Cozens-level guy since that doesn't move the needle for us as you point out.
