F Michael Misa - Saginaw Spirit, OHL (2025 Draft)

I’m talking about draft coverage, which should be a year-round thing. NHL.com does a good job in terms of content but they are never, ever critical. The Misa situation doesn’t have to be front-page news, but we’re a week+ away from lottery slots becoming official and about a month from the drawing itself. It’s newsworthy to report on a top prospect’s struggles considering the pre-playoff rhetoric centered on Misa being the runaway best forward in the class.
No you're asking about why he's been less effective/didn't play in Game 5 in Round 1 of the OHL Playoffs. Essentially asking why it's not a big hockey news story. We can presume there is a reason why he did not play. The reality of the reason there is that not more discussion about it is that the OHL Playoffs are not a heavily covered topic so a key player missing a game does not spark a big discussion.

You specifically mentioned the NFL and NBA Drafts, which are the two biggest sporting leagues by revenue in the world, and their collegiate levels are heavily followed and big business on a standalone basis as well. How his health impacts his draft positioning is TBD since whatever happened just happened. If it's a minor thing, which is likely if he was mostly playing through it, I would imagine not at all since players are drafted for what they do over the next 7 years or so, not what they'd do between April 7th - April 14th of their draft year.

Too much irrelevance in this post and it’s moot at this point. Hockey News, TSN, Sportnet, The Athletic, ESPN, NHL.com — i.e. mainstream draft coverage - all cover the draft and prospects year-round; some better and more frequently than others. Nobody was talking about Misa, even the OHL pages with dedicated writers. I found that odd, mostly because of the unanswered questions. Stop acting like I want a 30-for-30 and a Sunday NYT investigative report. The whole scenario was odd — slumping then scratched with no reason given???? Three or graphs with quotes from the coach and problem solved.

Whatever, it will all come out eventually

Nobody covers anything on the NHL prospects. Schaefer is taking longer than anyone in human history to recover from a broken collarbone. If he were a projected #1 pick in the NFL or NBA medical teams would have given dozens of assessments by now.

To be fair, NBA and NFL draft prospects are usually 18+, compared to most NHL draft prospects being U18.

They're just kids man. If his back is cooked teams will find about it and take that into account. Unlike Schaefer he's barely an adult but he's still not a professional athlete yet.

Watching his season highlights it doesn't feel like he ''created'' a lot of goals.
I've only seen his highlights - haven't watched him otherwise. But that was exactly my takeaway as well. I saw a lot of goals off shots that you don't often get in the NHL.

I sort of get the same vides that you got from Lafreniere here, like a lack of star quality abilities. Watching his season highlights it doesn't feel like he ''created'' a lot of goals. I like his one timer though.
It's this 100%. He's not nearly the play-driver you want from a top 3 pick center.
