F Michael Misa - Saginaw Spirit, OHL (2025 Draft)

He’s been a liability at center far too often. That actually applies on the PK as well, not only for losing draws, but also in coverage. Why don’t you provide a shift-by-shift of one of his recent games to prove your point?

OHL coaches see Misa, what, 3-5 times a year? I get that done for one player in a week to two weeks with the benefit having more time on my hands. Did they audit all 70+ assists like I did? Probably not. If they did, they’d know how only 20 percent of his 5v5 assists were actual setups, as opposed to faceoff wins, rebounds, simple low to high feeds to Parekh, or short-distance handoffs. Took me a week to review all 134 of his points.

Tell those OHL coaches they can talk to me about Misa’s playmaking when they do the same.
Audit all 70+ assists? Lol you're not a projection type of guy are you. Having 70 + assists as a 17 year old in the OHL alone is phenomenal. When it happens that many times as an underage player it's not an accident.

How many people think Misa is NHL ready right away? I definitely think he's proven all he can in the O.
NCAA would probably be optimal for him. I don't see the practicality of players like Misa, or McKenna for that matter, in returning to the CHL after such dominant seasons. Need better competition on a regular basis. I firmly believe Bedard would have benefited from an NCAA season instead of spending his draft year back in the WHL.

Misa out of the lineup tonight. Good chance he's been playing hurt for most of this series.
Soon as I saw that he wasn't taking faceoffs, I was suspicious that he was playing hurt. But I didn't want to post that in this thread, lest I get accused of making excuses for him because I'm a Misa fanboy. Clearly, the logical conclusion was that he is secretly a winger.

If a guy’s not good enough to go when the season’s on the line I would be surprised to see him come back for the u18s. Here’s hoping but I would imagine he won’t be there
True but there is another 2.5 weeks to potentially heal up.

Why is there an assumption he won't want to make an NHL team in the fall? Would be shocked if we see him not even make the attempt.
Pretty sure he cant play anything higher than rookie camp while still maintaining NCAA eligibility? If he's considering NCAA he cannot sign a ELC right?

Correct. If he wants to play NHL next season then NCAA is not an option.
Exactly. That's why I think it's more likely that McKenna goes NCAA than Misa. I think that the NCAA is the level best suited for Misa but he can't play in the main NHL training camp without forfeiting his NCAA eligibility I don't think, and a Top 5 puck out of the OHL is probably going to bet on himself.

Is it concerning for the Misa hype that Cherynshov has been ripping up the OHL since jumping over from the MHL? I know he's 14.5 months younger, but I feel like you'd expect a bit more separation in Misa's favor from a projected 2nd overall pick and an early 2nd round pick from last year's draft.

Do you mean the KHL?

Chernyshov dropped due to two main reasons:
1) Scouts were scared he would not produce much offense, and that his defense wouldn't completely translate to the NHL,
2) He had a sunburn during the combine and did not perform as well as he'd liked. Being from Russia, this was one of few chances to see him, so this hurt his stocks a lot.

I never saw any of his tape in Russia, so I have no idea how he suddenly exploded in offense this season, but I wouldn't say it's that concerning. Anyone who plays with another good player will have their points increase, Rantanen is a good example from the NHL.

Misa’s poor play should have little to nothing to do with any possible injury unless it’s concussion related. His coach was literally double-shifting him in Game 2, sometimes every other shift and he looked healthy. Fast forward to Game 4 and he was exhibiting poor body language and a lackluster compete level, especially in the third. So Who knows.

Any injury will have to be disclosed to scouts and should be equally as concerning as his play. If he’s hurt, then he shouldn’t participate at the U18s. If he was given a maintenance day, the coach owes an explanation as to why he chose an elimination game to do it.

He certainly stopped looking and playing like a 1st OA candidate several weeks ago. Now we wait and see if the media decides to pick up on this. At least posters on this board have a clearer picture.

The concern should be that Chernyshov was noticeably better on a nightly basis, or that he drove the line as a wing.

Why does the success of one player suddenly take away from the other? When did it become a zero sum game? More than one player can have a good season on the same team at the same time. It doesn't have to be an indictment on the other. So strange to go to that.

Sometimes players have a certain good (or bad) synergy with other players where the sum isn’t equal to the addition of the individual parts

Wasn't he also dealing with a shoulder injury that required surgery ?

It isn't concerning at all in my opinion, it's more of a testament to how good Chernyshov actually has been so far in the OHL and these playoffs.

But that's coming from a guy that had Igor Chernyshov at the 15th rank in last year's draft and really, really liked his potential. So maybe take that with a grain of salt too?
