F Michael Misa - Saginaw Spirit, OHL (2025 Draft)

Misa is a natural C and played wing for the betterment of his team on their way to winning the Memorial Cup. Also being banged up and 16 was detrimental with vets like Beck, Sapovaliv and Hay ahead in age and experience. He still was an intricate part of the greatest success of the organization.
This year he is showing everyone just how strong his total game is with being a huge part of the team and building around him. Leading the league in Pts and goals is only part of how he leads by example. JMO at 6’1 185 he has all that is needed to succeed at the next level in a major way. This season should solidify why he received ES in the first place.

Hagens is a safer pick than Misa, I think that’s why some teams would be inclined to pick him first. I think if Misa’s game doesn’t translate well to the NHL, his off puck play and motor is not enough to compensate, whereas, even if he has a lower offensive ceiling, Hagens’ game brings so much more than offence that will make him a top 15 centreman

The draft doesn’t work like that.
Players around the hockey world compete with each other playing against different levels of competition throughout the season to be the most desirable prospect.
It’s not as if Misa is competing against a player who doesn’t play hockey this season, and NHL teams only care how many points Misa scores in the NHL. There’s no “if Misa hits this PPG he gets to go 1st and if he hits this PPG he goes 4th” equation to this.
You’re making the picture of how players get drafted where seem way more simplistic than it is, and arguably extremely distorted.

your telling me if he actually stays on pace for his 89 goals and 160 or 180 points whatever it is he wont pass hagens for 1st? come on now.. if its close at all usually always the canadian gets picked first. most times anyway

It’s a projection instead of a power ranking essentially. But his game has looked a lot more protectable this year
Plenty of hockey left and nobody knows who is going when or where but it is good for us to have our armchair GM opinions.

I don't think that's ever been one of Misa's weak points. The question was whether he could ever takes his offense to the next level.

Misa's ability to do a lot of good when he isn't scoring is absolutely a strong point for him. He played more of a depth role on Saginaw last season and was great despite not scoring all that much. The fact that he's scoring at an insane rate this season is what takes him from a 6th-10th overall type of prospect to a maybe top-2 in the draft.
I'm going to wait until January or early February before making any definitive conclusions as to who should go 1OA. I will say this, however; while Misa has always played a strong game off the puck (not sure what that poster was thinking when he made the comment that it was a weakness of his), is a very good skater with very good puck skills, he never really drove his line and was more the recipient of the offensive work put in by others..... until this season. He is making everything happen out there now and of course if he keeps this up he will most certainly be in the mix for 1st overall. Still to early though and we will see how he does as the season grinds on.

Empty netter for the hat trick. Epperson assisted on all 3 of his goals. They really do feed off each other. As much as Misa is a great finisher, Epperson is an amazing set up man. Whoever takes Misa might want to take Epperson as a re entry.
I think Misa is being punished for having a subpar season by the media last year, because what he's doing this year is insane. This rate of goals per game has only been seen 3 times in the last 25 years by an under 18 playerbin CHL (Bedard, Tavares and Crosby) this is literally exceptional. Besides, he has everything, size, skating, IQ, shot, good defensive game and is a center. I feel like he should be in the conversation for top 1 more than Martone, for example.

Honestly mix and match. Don't think anyone is going to go wrong picking in the top 4 this year. Couple 1C's, a big bodied skilled winger, and a top pair D.
