First off his name is spelled Max Westergård, I don’t like to include any umlats or accents in titles so it is easier to find the players. His name is basically pronounced as “Wester-Gord”

Westergård is a Finnish kid that has played very well in the Finnish U18 league as an underager. He has also been producing for the Finnish NT and definitely stood out to me in games he playes Max is taking a rather unorthdox path as he will join Frolunda’s system in Sweden next year, this is rather odd for a Finnish kid to do this, it doesn’t happen too often.
Max isn’t massive but he plays a big game, he isn’t aftraid to battle in front of the net and he play’s a rather mature game at his age. He will go and battle for pucks in corners and isn’t afraid pf body contact. Seems like he could become a power forward in the future. Skating needs some work but he has good IQ as he positions himself well on the ice for scoring chances. Interesting kid to follow going forward.

The move to Frölunda is "official" now (he's on their J20 roster on Elite Prospects). I hope he fares better than Kristian Vesalainen and Joni Ikonen did in Frölunda.

Great shot. Shoots a lot. Very hard shot. That’s what I noticed about him. Looked like one of the best Finn’s.

Is there any possibility that the leaves Frölunda next year? Loaned to Allsvenskan? I actually hope he goes to a Canadian junior league or comes back and plays in liiga for say Jukurit or HPK. Not KooKoo please.
A bad team so he can get minutes but a organization who has shown the competence to develop players.

If he can't join Ivar next year and get some time in SHL (very unlikely) then I hope he leaves for his own sake and development. I don't think Frölunda was the best option for Vesalainen back in the days either, nor Ikonen.

Got his SHL debut already this season (yesterday) on a same line with Stenberg and Ruohomaa.

Thought he was fantastic today in Frolundas playoff game. Can't understand why the coach didn't play him more towards the end. Frolunda lost game 1 to Lulea in the semi-finals.

I quess his U18 Champs participation depends whether Frölunda makes finals

He's getting a lot of praise from his coach Roger Rönnberg who is a very respectful figure in Swedish hockey. Maybe a late riser in the draft?

More like late first round. Kid is really good. Already having a impact in the SHL playoffs which is very hard to have in that age

Scouting reports on him suggest he's a great straight-line skater but lacks high end skill and his defensive game needs work. It's impressive that a player so young is doing well in the SHL playoffs though so that should bode well on draft day.
