F Mathis Preston - Okanagan HA, CSSHL U15 (2026 Draft)

He's an 08 so I don't think he'd be going for next season. And then he's likely a top draft pick in 2026 and whoever drafts him may sign him right away, making him ineligible for the NCAA.
I’d definitely expect more U18 players than in previous seasons but you’re probably right.

Wonder if Preston will be one of the many top prospects who are off to NCAA.

I doubt it. It's rare for a guy to go into college in his draft year. Who knows down the line, but it's nothing to worry about at the moment.

The whole CHLers going over to NCAA is overblown. Yes some overagers and guys going in their D+2 seasons, but nothing firm. It's all commitments at this point and I have my doubts that NHL teams would choose a college team over their own development system.

I doubt NHL club will still sign their top CHL prospects immediately after the NCAA rule change.
Why wouldn't they? I don't think it would happen often, but once you "let" them go to the NCAA, you could lose their rights if they end up changing their mind about signing with you. I'm not convinced teams will want to risk that with their top prospects.
