F Jonathan Lekkerimaki (2022, 15th, VAN)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Who gave up on him?

Those that were disappointed by his D+! performance as they should have been?

Once it was known that he had mono then his poor performance was given some context.
you need to go to his thread on canucks board in his D+1 year. Many advocated to cut bait early while he still has value and trade him away even after his mono diagnosis is common knowledge. Its what happens in msg boards like these, we are all armchair GMs. Thank goodness Allvin doesnt make rash decisions.

I'm a Canucks fan and go on our boards alot but like I said most of the fans were saying this before they found out about the mono as I was one of them and his D+1 year was disappointing and sure some people have the patience of a toddler.

I'm a bit disappointed that it's pronounced "Lekker-Mackie" and not "Lehcarey-Maki".

The Canucks recalled him to play last night...and played him 10 minutes. Rick Tocchet can not be trusted with pure skill guys who are either very young or have flaws in their game.
I think that's a bit overblown. The Canucks are battling for a playoff spot and Tocchet is trying to squeeze any win he can get out of his team without his best player in the lineup. I have no problem with a kid needing to earn his coaches trust before logging big minutes in these situations.

Feels a bit silly calling that a must win game, but that's pretty much what it was. It's good that he got into the game at all, got the call-up I mean. Kid looks to have a bright future.

These are mostly assessment callups for Lekkerimaki. And thus far this year he has shown tremendous growth in his game. It's been an excellent 6 months for him. Not worried about 10 minutes as he's getting played in situations that suit his strengths (PP time).

No pp and no pk. 11 minutes at evens is decent for a young guy learning the game on a club with expectations of players all playing the right way and winning.
He had 2:24 of PP time. 15 total shifts which is fine. As with most young players he's going to make sure his shifts are 40-45 seconds and no longer (shifts ranged from 21 secs to 62 seconds). As everyone gets more comfortable the shifts will extend a bit and he'll get 17-18. There isn't much of a difference between 10 minutes and 13 min when it comes down to it for a forward.

9:33 last night in a game VAN trailed throughout. I think he had 1 shift where you really noticed him.

I really don't think he should be in the NHL at this point if this is how he will be used. Skilled players need to play with other skilled players. A young skilled player needs consistent ice time and role. The Canucks are not doing this.

He's really talented and dangerous in the offensive zone

Lekkerimaki clearly has elite skills. he’s light as a feather and still developing the physical strength needed to play a top six role in the National League.

I do agree, if he's being played so sporadically, he might as well continue to dominate the AHL though. Right now, he should be given a chance to play on the PP in Boeser's place now that EP is shooting again. calling him up and not giving his shot PP time is criminal. Once QH is back, with his ability to distribute, just tell him stand still and launch one timers from Ovechkin's spot.

It's been an excellent 6 months for him

From the playoffs of his D+1 season, through his entire D+2 season, and now his entire D+3 season he’s excelling at each level he plays (except the NHL)

…it seems like the only thing holding him back is the easiest thing to improve upon at his age (putting on some size and strength).

If he can come to camp 10 pounds heavier without losing any speed, he’s in a great position to be a top 6 player for us next season.

There will probably be some growing pains along the way defensively but the lack of firepower around him up front will probably lead to him getting lots of prime shooting opportunities, and hopefully becoming the go to guy as the season progresses.

He will probably be down in a couple of days. What the Canucks are doing is bringing up players, letting them play and see the what the pace and everything is like at the NHL level. So when they go back they realize and understand what they have to work on.

Last time he was up it was his defensive game and seeing him in this stint he has cleaned up his defensive game quite a bit. I like the approach.

Another healthy scratch tonight after what seemed to be a decent showing on Tuesday.

Tocchet and this type of skilled winger, it's just not going to work it appears.
The radio host take today is that Linus Karlsson plays the 2-way game a bit better and the Canucks powerplay has already been clicking, mitigating the [perceived] Lekkerimaki advantage in this area. Karlsson also just signed a new contract and played well previous game.

I think he should split time between AHL and NHL next year, unless his has a fantastic camp. He still needs to add some strength to be efficient over a full NHL season. There is no immediate rush. Remember he more or less lost a season due to mono, so give him time to grow. I think his time to shine will be the 26/27 season. By then he would have had 2 full off seasons to add more muscles.
