I don’t see an NHL future in Shaugabay and I don’t think a different development path changes that. He plays the game at a different pace and I don’t think that’s feasible at the highest level with his frame. He was the second best player and prospect on his line at Warroad last year.

Any reason then that he outscored Pilgrim (by 4 points in same GP) and won Mr. Hockey?

Not saying you’re necessarily wrong. Pilgrim seems like another really good prospect for next year, but I’m interested in why you say that Pilgrim is better.

Significantly better skater, a bit more dynamic, more of a willing shooter with a nice release. Both put up video game numbers so you’re splitting hairs but Pilgrim will have a little more projectable frame to fill into with seemingly better tools I think. Not many smaller frame players currently playing the game the way Shaugabay does in the NHL so I’m just not convinced.

MN Mr. Hockey goes to the best Senior grade player so Pilgrim would have not be eligible.

4+1=5 points in his first 5 games for Minnesota Duluth. Probably won't make a serious run at the US World Junior team, but I believe he was at the Summer Showcase, so he has a slight chance and the good start doesn't hurt.
