Is there even a real upside to switch from Slovak to Czech?
I think Czech players play a few more games each season and against better opponents.
They also have a better coaching team (Someone could say that's debatable).
So there is some benefit in switching if you are really good, if not than it could backfire.
But currently players playing outside of Slovakia are not welcomed in the national team in the U15/U16 category. In the U17 category there are only 3 slots available.
If this stupid rule stays for the next season then Jakub Milanic (Or any other Slovak players) will most likely miss at least 10-40 games before they get invited to the national team.
Compare these 2009 players:
L. Kachlir - 40 games
M. Hartl - 12 games
O. Ozogany - 0 games
These international games are obviously very important.
Last season:
Czech U16 NT - played according EP 24 games
Slovak U16 NT - played according EP 10 games
If these stats are correct than the difference is quite big. Not only Slovak players play fewer games. Some of the best prospects don't get to play a single game.
SZLH director Miroslav Lazo argued in one of his interviews that he was only invited to the U18 and it was enough to have a great hockey career. So people shouldn't stress about youth national team invites/games.
I think that claim is ridiculous and the amount of games missed will have huge negative impact in the future.
