Is he going to go the NCAA Free Agent route? I would guess Florida will try and sign him once his college season ends. Hard roster to make, but at same time, they are not so deep at prospect level.

Leading the NCAA in scoring currently. I’m very curious what his plan will be after the season ends. Sign with the team that drafted him or wait it out and become a UFA and sign where he wants

So far he's been giving very diplomatic answers when asked about his plans after this NCAA year, praising the Panthers as an organization as a whole and one that has supported his choice to return for a senior year. The opposite could happen but I'd be willing to bet he signs his ELC with Florida in the spring.

"I think it was talking to the coaching staff here, their people there and ultimately for me, I think it was where I thought was best for me and my development both as a player and as a person," Devine said. "Obviously, they’re a great organization and one day my dream is to be a Florida Panther but I know here I’ve had a great opportunity to develop and I love the coaching staff, I love the people, I love my teammates. I just thought another year under my belt could do really strong things for me."

..."I think for me it just brings a lot of excitement for whenever I get my chance to hopefully represent the {Florida Panthers] organization and I can help them in a playoff race," he said.

The leverage option, if he has any, would be in play here. Devine could basically say "I'll sign if you give me NHL games to end the regular season, NHL pay for me, you retain me as a prospect going forward. Otherwise, if you don't guarantee me that, I will run out the clock to August 15 UFA and sign with whomever gives me more guaranteed assurances to a get an NHL shot."
