F Ivan Demidov (2024, 5th, MTL) Part 2

Excited to see how he does, but I'd only caution that he's never lived a day in his life in NA or played a game in the NHL.

I'm sure he'll do well relatively soon, but dropping him into a playoff race (likely the playoffs) will be difficult. He can probably play a regular shift, but I wouldn't be so sure that he'll be any sort of difference maker right away.

My guess is he’s going to arrive in Montreal Thursday and practice with the team over the weekend and Monday and play the last two games on the second line with Laine and Newhook.

He grew up like 20mins away from Moscow...

Have you ever been to Moscow ? No difference really with any other big city life.

Right, but being somewhere for a few days on a vacation or special occasion is different from it being your day to day.

Now he'll be hanging around every day with teammates who speak predominantly English in the dressing room, teammates who are likely a lot older than him, teammates from a very different culture, and learning how to navigate around a new city on a daily basis. Oh yeah, also throw the differences of Montreal compared to the rest of the NHL into things, and it's a lot.

I'm sure he'll adapt, but I can't remember a young Russian from the KHL thrown into an NHL playoff race. Maybe someone can remind me of one. Gusev is one example, but he was like five years older than Demidov. There will also be Nikishin this year, but he's also like 3-4 years older than Demidov.

Look at Washington. It's not necessarily easy right now for a player like Ryan Leonard. He's just a guy right now, not a difference maker. Demidov has additional challenges there that Leonard doesn't, so I'm not suggesting Demidov won't be successful relatively quickly, but it might not be literally right away.

Lol. You said something that wasn’t true and I corrected it. That’s all. Of course there’s going to be an adjustment - there is for every player coming from overseas. But Demidov’s situation isn’t any different than the thousands of foreign-born players that came over before him, so I’m not sure why it’s worth bringing up.

Except it was true.

I didn't say he's never spent a day in his life in North America. I said lived.

Live connotes that it's where you currently reside.

You’re grasping at straws here. You reside at a hotel when you’re abroad. You still live your life; it doesn’t stop just because you aren’t where you usually are - you eat, you sleep, you get up, you workout, you answer your phone, you go where you need to be, you interact with people. Also, he was here on business, not lounging around alone on some beach drinking with his phone on DND. Ivan has certainly “lived a day in his life in NA”.

Confirmed by Friedman, he's on his way over, changes the complexion of our team for sure
No pressure!

Gonna be exciting to see what he can do. Not an easy time to come into the league and get your feet wet. Hopefully Habs fans understand this.

I am sure he will be incredible at some point but the expectations for right away I am reading in here are pretty sky high.

Team is clicking right now, hope they don't mess it up to forcefully insert Demidov in the lineup.

Like what? By who?

Playing against Toronto will be great for his development since he can learn from a better opponent that has made the playoffs 9 seasons in a row.
Now compare how many rounds won between the Laffs and the Habs during that time.
