So do we think Howard was told they don't have an NHL spot for him next year in Tampa, so he will not sign with them? And if another team trades for his rights and tells him there is a good chance he will play in the NHL, he will sign?Howard fits the exact category that Dubas has talked about in terms of using recently acquired draft capital to acquire NHL ready prospects. So if Howard does end up on the trade block, the Penguins are definitely a team to watch here.
Hard to argue. The other two are probably flat-out better players, but being ~68% up on 2nd place on his team is no joke.
Why should a guy who was just recognized as the best player in the entirety of college hockey ride the bus and make AHL money when all of his peers who had comparable or worse seasons are stepping straight into the NHL lineup? What I don’t understand is the college kids that get drafted by good teams and don’t want to play in the AHL because they are too good for it. Amateur hockey players that think that they are too good for probably the 3rd best league in the world. They demand trades or threaten to not sign if they can’t play right now.
But if they would pay their dues in the AHL and play as good as they think they are they would get called up to play in the NHL when injuries hit.
Rutger thought he was NHL talent and he wasn’t, he had to play in the A because he couldn’t make an awful Pittsburgh team. If he would have stayed with Winnipeg he very well could have been playing the past two weeks and earn himself a shot at playing in the playoffs with what might be the number 1 seed.
Howard is one injury away from playing on one of the greatest teams in the NHL that has proven to be amazing at developing forwards and if he impresses on an injury call up he would stay up and make a post season run next year.
BriseBois & the Lightning didn't have cap space to sign Howard to his ELC after State was eliminated. Then, allegedly, BriseBois wanted Howard to sign an ATO to end the season in the A in Syracuse, thus his ELC not starting until 2025-26. Telling one of your best prospects, who you drafted in the 1st round, to sign an ATO is flat out disrespectful. BriseBois didn't plan ahead of time to make sure enough cap room was available to sign Howard to an ELC. Disgraceful. What I don’t understand is the college kids that get drafted by good teams and don’t want to play in the AHL because they are too good for it. Because as many of them have shown they aren’t ready for the NHL, nobody who signed is really doing too hot at all. So to step in to one of the best forward cores as an amateur hockey player is entitled. You aren’t some can’t miss prospect who can demand to go straight to the nhlWhy should a guy who was just recognized as the best player in the entirety of college hockey ride the bus and make AHL money when all of his peers who had comparable or worse seasons are stepping straight into the NHL lineup?
Hobey Baker award is meaningless. Could be a player who is barely NHL level. He was a late 1st so it all depends on where the NHL team is in the standings. Why should a guy who was just recognized as the best player in the entirety of college hockey ride the bus and make AHL money when all of his peers who had comparable or worse seasons are stepping straight into the NHL lineup?
It's not entitled, it's using what little leverage he has as a drafted prospect to further his career in the best way possible.Because as many of them have shown they aren’t ready for the NHL, nobody who signed is really doing too hot at all. Is he furthering his career by playing in a lesser league for less money playing less games because he is too good for that league? It's not entitled, it's using what little leverage he has as a drafted prospect to further his career in the best way possible.
He will probably be making equivalent if not greater money at Michigan State vs. SyracuseIs he furthering his career by playing in a lesser league for less money playing less games because he is too good for that league?
He is good enough and has a long enough track record that he will get signed even if he misses all of next year with injury. You could have a devastating injury in any league you play in.He could easily have a set back next year or an injury and never get signed. The A is a grind but if you’re too good for the AHL the club will bring you up.
How is waiting and choosing whatever team has the best plan for you specifically not doing what's best for your career? And why should he care that Tampa is cap-strapped and contending? That's a problem for them, not him.I don’t think he is furthering his career by leaving what might be the best franchise at developing offensive talent because he is upset a cap strapped contending team can’t sign him and burn a year.
He was a PPG as a So, so TB should have planned for him leaving if he had an equal or better season. He just won the Hobey Baker award. So, he was going to leave school and not return for a SR season. Need to have figured it out.He will probably be making equivalent if not greater money at Michigan State vs. Syracuse
