F Igor Chernyshov - Saginaw Spirit, OHL (2024, 33rd, SJS)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

People seem to overlook he had a major surgery and didn’t play hockey for 4 months. Given he needed to make the jump/adjustment to NA at some point and this season was already going to be limited development-wise, I think people are getting too hung on what league he is playing in.

Next year he'll be in the AHL to start and then we'll see where he's at with that level of competition. The actual numbers he's putting up with very good teammates at Saginaw don't actually matter that much to me other than that they are demonstrations of skills he possesses. I've been pleased to see the level of his passing and particularly his shot, which was listed as a needed area of improvement when I read about him post-draft. It's looked good to me so far.

He's also been recovering in San Jose watching and being around the Sharks and Barracuda. So he's getting the off ice learning. I am sure he went to Saginaw with a list of things to work on. I would assume based off what i have seen is that conditioning is one of them. He's been getting better in that area.

Maybe there isn't a night and day difference but the actual prospects seem to think so as they flock to the CHL in huge numbers

Proximity is part of it as it the fact that in North america all of the junior prospects have dreams of playing in the NHL, in Russia not as much.

Nobody is flocking to the CHL in large numbers, at least not Russians.

There are 16 in the CHL; only 2 of which who are considered among the elite of their Russian age groups. (Chernyshov and Gridin)

I can’t comment on other countries, but who is drafted (Russians) by CHL is generally predicated on agents and connections; not necessarily talent, or talented players always wanting to play in CHL.

Good thing he can't get sunburned right now.

May have trouble staying on the ice in SJS, though! lol. One of the funniest/saddest pre-draft stories I've seen. Couldn't workout at the Milstein Gold Star camp because he got sunburned too badly.

How do you hit on a pick you haven’t yet seen play in the NHL?

What he’s done in Saginaw is impressive, but holy hell some of you are putting the wagon before the horse.
Tell that to all the Habs fans anointing Demidov.

Mind you, no Sharks fan has said anything about Chernyshov being a slam-dunk. We'll be thrilled if he can be a second line power forward, which would already be a huge win at 33rd overall.

It's pretty hard to argue that any team had a better overall draft for the last 3 drafts combined at this point.

Now maybe they don't all pan out but they could very well have 7 or 8 solid to excellent NHLers from the last 3 drafts here.

I wouldn't say the Sharks 2022 Draft was great. Bystedt looks decent but unspectacular in the A, Lund has been fine in the NCAA, may never be a high impact NHLer, and Havelid doesn't look like an NHLer right now with how he's done in the SHL and Allsvenskan. I would have taken Howard, Casey, & Hutson in the Sharks' slots. They might not get a high impact NHLer from their 2022 Draft.

In regards to Chernyshov, his performances in a limited sample have been very encouraging, even though it's junior and he's in his 19 year old season.

That's quite the Monday morning quarterbacking.

He might be getting burned by all the red lights behind opponents' nets when he's on the ice though. Just ripping it up in Saginaw.
