Should be one of the top Americans for the 2026 NHL draft. Ethan Garden reminds me of Mitch Marner in that his is small and slight in stature but but he plays a fast, elusive and skilled game. He is a fantastic skater than isn’t afraid of attacking the middle of the ice. He isn’t much of a shooter but he is able to find teammates from most anywhere on the ice because of how great his vision is. He is also always going 100% at any point of the game - he doesn‘t shy away from getting physical and is great On the forecheck applying pressure to defenders looking for breakouts.

It’ll be interesting to see how things go going forward.

Cool seeing a top hockey player coming out of Belleville, which is typically known for football. Assuming Garden will be at the NTDP next year and then at Michigan in 2026.

He wasn’t on the YOG roster, so he will likely have significant work to do in making the roster.

Only a 17 man roster at that tournament, Garden will still have a chance to make the NTDP. Work to do, but a chance for sure
Yeah, that’s true. I would think that close to 15 players will return. The last edition had 14 of 17 return for the NTDP and then 9 new players for the NTDP. It was probably a better YOG team in 2020 with more no-doubt picks, so maybe this team will see more turnover.

He’s one of the bigger names that wasn’t picked, so he probably has a better chance than anyone, but if you flip that around he might’ve not been under the radar. They simply may not think he’s not of the best 17 or 23.

Now we await if Garden will go a developmental route through the O in a place like Saginaw, Flint, Windsor, or London, or if he goes through the USHL and ends up at Michigan or Michigan State.

40 minutes from home, bet he would enjoy that if he wants to go major junior. If not, he can go 3 hours east to Youngstown in the USHL, then go to one of the Michigan schools for NCAA
He’s being recruited quite heavily by Michigan. But he has not made up his mind, a lot still in the air here.

Spitfires GM stated that if Garden was from Ontario, he would have been a 1st or 2nd round pick. Very intrigued to see if he becomes a massive draft steal in the O and potentially an NHL Draft pick in 2026.

He was passed over by NTDP. Great player and will do well in Windsor, but isn't a slam dunk

Being passed over by the NTDP doesn't automatically mean you aren't elite. USA Hockey has not invited kids to Evaluation Camp if they think those kids are leaning towards the CHL (ex: Jason Robertson).

Sure, Garden is not a slam dunk but he was the best 2008 in Michigan minor hockey.

Too small to be an NHLer, but he will be a fantastic OHLer

Jason Robertson was no where near an elite player at the same age though. He wasn't even a top 3 player on his DMF team his u16 year and wasn't sniffing the NTDP regardless.

Garden is a fine player but he has a lot of work to do, similar to Robertson.

hes a good player but more a 3rd round pick vs a 1st. probably a 2nd after other top guys fall. if i was doing a pure talent draft where you could take players regardless of ohl interest, he would not be in the top 40.

that said, he will be a very good ohl player.

Do you regret your team not taking a swing on him earlier in the draft if you’d known there was a chance he’d sign so quickly after the draft?

There are plenty of teams in the O who likely wouldn't have been able to get Garden to commit, or at least commit so quickly. His hometown (Belleville, MI) being 40 minutes from Windsor was a huge selling point.
