intriguing player but he has a long way to go. have yet to see the physical edge/chippyness, so don't see how comparisons to gallagher and marchand are warranted.

He doesn't run around hitting guys, but he finishes his checks, goes to the dirty areas, battles hard and isn't afraid to take some abuse to make a play. If you haven't seen that out of him, then I'm not sure you've been watching.

Hopefully not. Slepyshev looked same last preseason and fizzled out over time in NHL once real games started

Not saying hell follow suit but gotta wait and see. Looks promising but this is easy part. But he got a great shot with WHC and all top 3 centers gone and he rally took advantage

I don't think these 2 scenarios are really the same at all. Slepyshev didn't look as good as everyone made it out to be. He displayed his shot scoring a few goals playing with guys like McDavid and Draisaitl, but he wasn't buzzing all over the ice constantly making great plays the way that Caggiula has. Slepyshev also needed to adjust to the NA game and seems to be much more on his way to being that type of player this year, but Caggiula doesn't have that hurdle to get over.

Ya I was kind of thinking the same thing.. and then I looked at noticed he has 0 hits in these 4 games. I didn't realize he was considered a physical/chippy pain in the ass player to be honest.

I enjoy watching him play but I didn't realize that was a big part of his game. He looks more of a guy that will work hard, chip in offensively and play a good PK. Not the major pain in the butt type game Marchand/Gallagher play that gets under the skin every shift of their opponents

But if he does turn into that, that would be unreal for Edmonton

I haven't seen much of the games, but doesn't he also get cross-checked in the face every other shift?

They showed him this:

Is that McDavid on an Ethan Bear?!

Like most college signings, he will be an after-thought in a couple of years.

He looks decent so far. I'll reserve judgement until game 20 of the regular season.

Lots of guys have looked like they belong in preseason only to fizzle out down the road.

Exactly, he could be another Conacher just as much as he could be a full time NHLer.

makes his debut tonight!

:handclap:

he will be turning heads!

I have a soft spot for little guys who doesn't get drafted but somehow finds their way to NHL

I wish the kid all the best. I hope he lights a spark. Oilers could use any help right now

Yup. He looks like he hasn't missed a beat from his preseason play. This kids gonna be a solid NHLer.

IMO him and Matt Benning were the best rookies in preseason (Puljujarvi had the most wow factor).

Glad he's flying under the radar - don't need unrealistic expectations thrust upon him just stay at the current 2 point every 2 games pace :)

Oilers forward depth is finally good - we can scratch two of Pouliot, Hendricks, Letestu, Lander, Caggiula, Slepyshev, Kassian - and still score 5 goals a game.

Pretty solid rookie season. Did everything you could hope from a college FA. Showed top 6 skill, but overall was a solid depth player

High upside, good tools, still a ways to go tho

Looks like a solid third liner that will score around 35pts for years to come. Not bad for a FA signing

He exceeded my expectations when the Oilers first signed him. I thought he'd be a good AHLer and maybe get a handful of games in 17/18 but he cracked the roster out of camp and didn't look out of place.

He's a scrappy smaller player and he elevated his game in a tough Anaheim series. I'm hoping he can be a 35 point guy next year

He really came alive late in the season and really showed he is a feisty player that most probably didn't know about him.

Expect a really good season from him next year.
