F Cayden Lindstrom - Medicine Hat Tigers, WHL (2024, 4th, CBJ)

You see a lot of power lifters say things like "don't deadlift unless you are just trying to get good at deadlifting". Risk vs reward there. Now imagine your average Joe at home moving heavy stuff at home with absolutely no idea how to brace his core, have horrible mechanics and just overall be a lot weaker than he wants to admit.

On the brightside it's very fixable and why the no pain from surgery actually was a big deal. Lindstrom will be going through a lot of what you did I imagine. Tons of core work, probably a lot of flexibility work, strengthening things like the spiral erectors with safer movements. I'm about 5 years removed from my injury and the only after effect I sometimes feel (rare) is a tightness in my lower back down to my left glute but it's pretty easy to loosen up and train/work without restriction.

This is why I've been much less worried than most. Add up the success rate for a lot of this, the fact he's a kid who will rebound easier than someone in his 40's and the fact he obviously has a strong work ethic... he'll be fine. He just might be a year behind making the NHL compared to what he could have been
I hear you, I just worry about how taxing skating is on the hips and how hips can impact back pain. Add in checking and awkward falls and it could be easy to aggravate.

Which is why I think this is taking so long. I'd bet they easily could have had him on the ice awhile ago if they wanted to push it but this is them giving him every chance in the world to be in the best position to come out the other side healthy

And while the nifty skilled forwards are the most fun to follow as prospects, if you look at the playoffs every year, it’s kind of easy to see why teams are constantly chasing big forwards that skate well and have skill. Insanely hard to find. Immensely valuable if you do. High risk (often), high reward.
Except those big forwards, when they receive debilitating injuries, they tend to start playing softer for self preservation and to stretch their careers, negating their size advantage.

Weightlifting is how I jacked my back up. Even happens to the pro's with good form. Other things that can cause it is simply moving things at home, twisting in a weird way or sneezing hard. People just talk out their ass with some of this stuff when in reality it can be caused by the most routine tasks
See this is why I don't lift weights nor do I do housework as it's simply too dangerous.

There has been some uncertainty throughout this but they are confident that it will all be fine in the end.

The microdiscectomy was reported Nov 20th, they have a 6-8 week recovery timetable so he should at least be skating and exercising by now, if not even practicing.

Judging a draft less than a year later is pretty dumb. When is that ever appropriate?
Are you SERIOUSLY asking whether or not it's appropriate for fans to make snap judgements? Whether it's appropriate or not is entirely irrelevant; we're talking about fans of professional sports - snap judgements are kind of exactly what we do.

As for this particular case, when a top 5 draft pick hasn't played a single game since that draft, and the guy picked right after him is going to set the rookie scoring record in the KHL, judgements are going to be made. If this is a problem for you, maybe engaging with fans of professional sports teams isn't your thing.

Oh, I think you misunderstood. I'm not saying sports fans don't make snap judgements. I'm saying sports fans who make snap judgements a year after an NHL draft are morons. That's all.
