It's an absolute disaster of a decision not to have Cristall at the WJC. This kid is rising to the challenge after being dissed at the draft. Just think, those morons at Hockey Canada went pure-on homer(Leafs) and picked Fraser fn Minten over a spectacular, uber-skilled scoring star like Cristall. Just think how Cristall and Celebrini would've racked-up the points.

i don't get it, why should Cristall be in the same team with Bedard? Hawks' management said don't want player can't skate, obviously they wouldn't pick Cristall.
The Bedard&Cristall story is beautiful, but they're young, they both have new friends and teammates, if hawks picked Cristall for making Bedard happy, what would happen if Cristall doesn't suit hawks' prospect pool or doesn't figure out?
Its true his skating isn't the best but it significantly improved from last year, also having a friend in the locker room allows for chemistry almost instantly also could be infectious and allow for a cheaper resign and easier negotiations being able to save 2 mil aav on a Bedard contract would be huge and with the way he his playing so far this year he would be considered just as good as Moore or nazar especially with him being lhs forward although Lardis is a great pick I feel like the hawks could have landed both

Maybe they watched the one-man mess Cristall was at the U18's and thought they didn't need that at the U20s?

You mean to tell me he wouldn't had been better than some of the trash that made the team? This is another year and he's a better all-round player than last year. And even so, he still had 6pts in 7 games at the U18's.

Not to even invite him when he's sitting at over 2ppg for the year (currently 2.1ppg), is ridiculous. They invited so many useless plugs and the outcome clearly bears out that they iced a horrible team.

He's 18 years old and in the prime of his development. If his skating improves at the rate it has from last season to this over the next few years he is going to become an above average skater by the time he enters the show two or three seasons from now.

They seemed like Letang wrote the lineup via a tattoo needle and he never varied it. They certainly suffered with a couple of one-man-show players that they brought (Poitras in particular) and didn't have strongly defined roles for checkers vs. scorers. It's hard to look at how Cristall plays and think it would've made a difference in the mess that Letang's lineup construction created.

Yeah, well put. The sum of the parts didn't add up. I say, always play the most talented guys no matter what. At least that way if you fail, no one can say you didn't try and stack the lineup. If Will Smith can have a spot on a very stacked USA team, IMO, so can Cristall. As neither set the world on fire with dynamics, skating and intensity. But they have such good IQ and hands, that even when they suck, they seem to get points.

2+2 game and W for Kelowna.

In his first 4 games of the season 4 points, which 3 of, he scored in game 1 of the season

last 27 games, 20 goals, 60 points, 2.22 ppg
Wow. Incredible numbers. He's been so much better vs last year in more ways than just offense. 3ppg and +4 in his last 5 and 2.5ppg and +11 in his last ten. Trending for +37, more than doubling his +/- from the previous year and trending for nearly double the points. Kid is the real deal. Wash made a very good pick so late. And I'll repeat that it was a purely partisan (pro Leaf) sin that he wasn't even invited to WJC camp over players like Cowan and Mitten. Those responsible for that kind of thinking should be canned.

76 points in 39 games (OT left of his 39th game)
His play this year is a big FU to all the teams that passed on him. And I like him even more because of it. Shows he's got spirit and will. Talent is a waste without that kind of competitiveness and determination. It's the difference between good and great.

Team Canada was lacking firepower and creativity. Cristall and Firkus may have made a difference, maybe giving up a little defensively but the benefit may have outweighed the detriment. We will never know.

Dumais did not make the team last year and hes a similar player to Cristall. Cristall bad showing last summer at the U18 probably killed his chances to make wjc team.

He should make the team next year , video game numbers is not that surprising. Teams believe it wont translate to higher levels.. we shall see. Fun player to follow

Few players for example

(and i'm aware stats are not everything. but not height/weight/position either, nor WJC success,
also, how you play etc. etc. is important)

C/W Samuel Honzek was drafted 16th overall - 6 foot 3
WHL - 66. 31+50=81 | +20 | 26 pim | 195 sog | 5 gwg | 1.23 ppg

C/W Charlie Stramel was drafted 21st overall - 6 foot 3
NCAA - 60. 8+11=19 | -13 | 76 pim | 75 sog | 1 gwg | 0.31 ppf

C/W Otto Stenberg, now, with euro players playing in europe
one can argue eternity to the beyond, so take these selections with
proverbial grains of salt i guess, i have my opinion, you have yours

was selected 25th overall - 5 foot 11
Junior U20 - 30. 11+15=26 | +10 | 53 pim | 0.87 ppg
SHL - 54. 4+5=9 | +1 | 8 pim | 0.17 ppg

C Calum Ritchie was drafted 27th overall - 6 foot 2
OHL - 100. 43+76=109 | +29 | 49 pim | 266 sog | 4 gwg | 1.09 ppg

C/W Easton Cowan was selected 28th overall - 6 foot 0
OHL - 111. 48+80=128 |+42 | 109 pim | 254 sog | 4 gwg | 1.15 ppg

C David Edstrom was selected 32nd overall - 6 foot 3 (read above about euro players)
Junior U20 - 29. 15+13=28 | +13 | 14 pim | 0.97 ppg
SHL - 48. 8+10=18 | +10 | 8 pim | 0.37 ppg

C/W Nico Myatovic was drafted 33rd - 6 foot 3
WHL - 88. 34+42=76 | +32 | 53 pim | 250 sog | 3 gwg | 0.86 ppg

W Kasper Halttunen was drafted 36th overall - 6 foot 3
Junior U20 - 18. 18+6=24 | +15 | 14 pim | 1.33 ppg
Sm-Liiga - 27. 0+1=1 | -7 | 8 pim | 0.04 ppg
OHL - 45. 27+23=50 | +18 | 47 pim | 165 sog | 3 gwg | 1.11 ppg

W Ethan Gauthier was drafted 37th overall - 5 foot 11

SHL - 53. 7+6=13 | +3 | 2 pim | 0.24 ppg

Now, this is my opinion but, in a 2023 redraft, i would select Andrew Cristall
above each and every one of these players.

But last night was one of the only games in which he played well in the past month. I always love AC, but I have to admit he struggled a lot bit recently..
