Confirmed Signing with Link: F Alex Formenton re-signs with HC Ambri-Piotta

Remember a month or two ago when the release of the parties involved was supposed to be released "soon"? Like within a day or two?

And then absolutely nothing happened?

Where's Rick Westhead these days, anyway. Radio silence on all fronts.
Don’t remember that, just recall NHL saying several times their report is nearly done, and waiting on the London Police report to be finished.

Bobby Hull, Denis Potvin, Billy Tibbetts, Doug Gimore, Scott Stevens, Dino Ciccarelli, Geoff Courtnall, Mike Riberio etc... What is it that we are doing here? If Formenton was Russian I would agree he'd likely go back home and make more income too.
Thank you for bringing up guys who were:

1. Way better than Alex Formenton.

2. Played 20/30/40 years ago.

Welcome to 2023. Mike Babcock is getting black balled for going through a player's phone and for some f***ing reason I need to explain to you how a player accused of what some would consider to be gang rape won't be returning. :help:

I think he has bigger problems than his hockey contract to think about.

Better for him to be out of sight and out of mind for a while. A day of reckoning may come.

And, really, if he was involved, justice should be served and reparations made.

With about double the cost of living...

I go Switzerland often for work and the €75 cocktails and €20 donner kebabs drive me crazy.
I don't think pro hockey players drink many cocktails and eat many kebabs during the season. At least I hope they don't. I also think import players get their apartments paid for by the clubs.

You are missing the point. Those are just examples, but all goods and services cost more.

I make more than the average player over there and my accommodations are paid for and I still find it ridiculously expensive place to be.

Appears the average salary on Fribourg in 2021 was 290000 Swiss Francs. That's roughly 319000USD.
As a foreign player - hence one of the best on the team - he‘ll make significantly more than that. My guess would be in the 800k-1m range, maybe a bit more. Also, it‘s Ambrí-Piotta, not Fribourg.

Also do note that Ambrí-Piotta has a population of 500 people. Yup, 500 people, lol. I bet that he‘ll live in Bellinzona (= the state‘s capital) or maybe Locarno. At least that won‘t be in the booneys/sticks!

I don't disagree. Just saying that the AVERAGE salary at Fribourg was all I could find. It's still reasonable context for the league when compared to others.

Seaking of that elephant is Hockey Canada just hoping everyone forgets? Is the strategy here to delay long enough that maybe it will just go away?

My opinion on how this would all play out has been pretty much that since the beginning. Nothing of substance will come from any of this.

How do you support a team in a town that small? I know there are lots of other small towns around it but that's a 6000 seat arena with no decent sized cities near by.

Because it used to be the only high level team in the state. They reached the top division in 1953, when the only other high level team in the state, HC Lugano, took nearly another 20 years to do so. So Ambrí has a lot of fans and supporters throughout the entire state. The village of Ambrí-Piotta isn‘t a major factor in supporting the team, the rest of the state is.

As a matter of fact, Ambrí nearly went bankrupt after the 1998-1999 season. They wanted to win at least once the title of Swiss champions and spent way over their financial capabilities in order to create a team that could do that.
They had a regular season for the ages, and then went all the way to the finals, but lost the finals 4-1 to, maximum irony, their arch rivals Lugano. That was the only final Ambrí ever reached in their history.

After the season they were so broke that they sent out a letter to every family in the state, begging for donations to avoid going bankrupt. Lo and behold, the people of the state actually pooled enough donations to help them avoid that. Tons of Lugano fans helped too, because at the end of the day, it‘s better to have two teams in the top league rather than one.
