Huge test. No star players to play with.
+ the coaching staff changed

They already have Nazar and Brzustewicz locked in for 22-23, and rumor has it that McGroarty may be switching his commitment to Michigan. Add in potential second year players like Duke, Samoskevich and Hughes (if he plays two years like his brother) and there'll be no shortage of talent on that team.

This kid is the current favorite to go 3rd overall, right? I know a lot can change, but he's penciled in right behind Bedard and Michkov, no?

That seems to be what the experts think. I personally don’t see it as such, but it’s early to know who will go where. A lot will change.

but in the USHL next season, the season i was referring to thou, sorry that forgot to mention
i think next season could potentially hurt his draft position, even thou he is 2023 eligible.

The same was said after they lost a lot of good players the season before, and they reloaded. They won the title. I don't think they will be as good this season, but they still should be one of the best teams in the league. He shouldn't need one of the best teams in USHL history around him to be one of the best forwards in the league.

I have him second behind Bedard. Michkov is under contract for a while…

I agree with you that Michkov should not be a lock for 2OA. I'm not sure he should be a lock for 3OA, 4OA, or 5OA. GM's only have job safety so long. Picking a guy that might not play a game in the NHL before your job security runs out is a very risky strategy that I'm not convinced any GM will take. Maybe one does, but I don't think it's a situation that every GM would, so I think his draft position will be a range somewhere in the top 10 as opposed to what it would be without the KHL contract.

I don’t think opinions have coalesced enough to use the term favourite, but he’s a common pick at 3. It’s easy to see why:
  • Very athletic
  • High end skill set - skating, hands, shot and vision are all really good
  • Already 6’2” 190 at the age of 16, and pretty likely to be a centre at the NHL level
If he continues to grow, I’d compare him a bit to guys like Eric Staal and Quinton Byfield. He’d be receiving more hype in a draft without Bedard and Michkov, IMO.

Although one thing I dislike about his game - he cheats a lot in the d-zone for a centre, always trying to get up the ice for a breakaway pass vs. staying deep and making sure the breakout goes smoothly. But that’s not uncommon for a 16 year old, overall most aspects of his game are great.

Saginaw Spirit traded his rights to the North Bay Battalion for a 6th rounder plus many conditional picks... No breaking news regarding change of commitment, but interesting nonetheless - especially since NB originally help the 1st overall OHL draft pick in his draft (drafting Ty Nelson after Fantilli stated he wouldnt be playing in the OHL).

Battalion are tracking to have an exciting team of young-ish high end talent this year, and major contenders NEXT year..

As exciting as their team is looking, not only would he have just as much or probably more of a chance to win a championship playing for the Steel, it's also North Bay...

13 points in 8 games, 2nd in scoring in the USHL.

Anyone been watching the games? How does he look?

He seems to be playing well so far . Has he been playing center the whole season?

He doesn't lead even his team in points anymore. Chicago Steel has 4 players in top6 USHL scorers. Still, his numbers are very impressive for a 2023 draft kid.
