Slafkovsky: Even though he didn't get any points. He still seemed to be a threat, everytime he was on the ice.

Newhook: Damn he is fun to watch. He helped make Gally and Armia look pretty good.

Overall entertainment wise, it wasn't bad. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.

I'd like to thank Mike Matheson for his contributions and pray that he only plays 9 more games in his career for the Montreal Canadiens
That play at the line where he loses the puck, and we give up a shorty, that was the game right there folks..................The Jerks have a very good team, and we are on our way to building something similar.

That Matheson blunder took the wind out of the sails. I mean they didn't play terribly but when going against excellent goalies and a pretty good D, Habs just don't have the horses to win that race.

Otoh there's still a Staal brother playing? That's kind of amazing to me. Figured they'd all retired by now.
It didn't help but the outcome was always going to be inevitable.
I always look at net front and compare the comfortability rating to determine how well we are doing.
It's not a stat we do well in against the better teams and it shows up in the high end scoring chances.
The close in chances we did get were heavily contested the forwards were often off balance and the ensuing shots were weak.

We lead the league in giving up short handed goals and add in the fact that we can't keep a PP over 20% the writing is on the wall.
The only reason we won any games at all recently was because of goaltending and a great PK.
It's very possible we would actually give up fewer shorties with Kirby Dach managing the point.
I don't know what they are going to do next season but I will be livid if they don't move on from the Matheson option.
His points for me are just a product of him being there.
I mean we are hard pressed to find something he does really well on it.

As much as I hate to admit it they may have added the punch they need up front to roll this post season.
Particularly if that goaltending holds up.

f***in'shit
Couldn't care less but so far the drug addict hasn't done much. If he and Guentzel produce in the playoffs and Anderson doesn't give up 2 soft goals a game they have a chance.

I keep saying it.

You need to trade this guy at the peak of his value. Will it set us back for next season? Probably. Will it help set us up for the contending window? Yes.

I dislike Canes also. But I rather see them win a cup than Boston

Is there way to tell how many of those 11 SHG are a direct result of Matheson f***ing up?
It's gotta be either 8 or 9, I'd be shocked if it was less

The worst part is everytime he costs us a SHG, everyone on the ice gets a -1 because of HIM

It won't be that different next season, it's going to be the same LD/RD as this year except that the team will be forced to keep Barron up unless they trade him this off-season. Matheson/Savard/Harris/Kovacevic/Barron/Struble/Xhekaj/Guhle...that's 8 dmen already.

Habs also have 13 signed forwards for next year. They don't even have the place to keep Ylonen who is RFA, unless they send Roy back down despite him having 1 more points than Ylonen in half the game played.

Hughes will have to do some roster clean-up come June...

Matheson was on the ice for 8 SHG.

2 more years. This team is going to be contending for spot 2/3 in the division. The team is coming together and you can see who's going to be edged out as the year goes on. a lot of 4/5/6 guys on d that probably won't be here, and our veterans that are in their 30s will be out.

Thanks
That is unacceptable.
Marty was not impressed at all last night I sensed some frustration actually.
Like I said I'll be shocked if we don't look at other options for PP1 next season.
Considering the number of 1 goal losses we've had this season we can no longer afford giving up so many shorties.
Next season was always going to be the one the screws start to get tightened on in my prognostications.

now lose every single game for the rest of the season
That's going to be hard. Teams clinching playoff spots, means they don't play at full strength, and we'll compete against another bunch of teams who won't make the playoffs, so they should care as much as we do.
