OT: Explain Your Avatars

Sports illustrated centerfold of two philly fans embracing in hope while Hasek robs them of joy.

So, back in late 2012 when the world was supposed to end, Old Spice sponsored a silly, stupid flash game where Dikembe Mutumbo was going to save the world. And in one level (released on Thanksgiving week), a turkey named "Random Turkey" befriended our hero, and at the end sacrificed himself by jumping in front of him to take a death ray. And with this final heroic act, he uttered the immortal words "For friendship, Dikembe!" And I found it funny so I took a screenshot and made it my avatar.

And here we are, almost 12.5 years later, and it just sorta stuck, simply never bothered finding a new avatar since. It's gone through several iterations of user names, but the avatar remains.

When your goalie has to take matters into his own hands because of how soft your team is...here you go.

My last one was Josh Georges. Not because he was great. But because he played in Montreal he said he could never play for the Leafs who were trying to get him and he said hell no!

Several years ago, the Sabres did a 70s night. Part of that 70s night was a T-shirt give-away. The Sabres decided to bedeck various levels of seating with the color of T-shirts corresponding with seat colors at the Aud - gold, red, blue, and orange..

My avatar is a photo of how Key Bank Center looked that night. With renovations possibly on the way for KBC that will hopefully include new seats, I'd love to see this look brought back to life at a renovated KBC.

It’s my middle daughter taking a shot from the slot. She was playing for the Hamburg Hawks girls. Her two sisters played as well. They’re all one year apart (currently ages 24/25/26). They were frequently on the same team together. They have an older brother (34 in 3 weeks) who played as well. He is the Josh in joshjull.

My avatar is the old flag of Prussia. I come from a heritage of Prussian Lutherans that settled where I grew up - Wheatfield, NY. I lived in a "historical" home built by Prussians in 1848 (before Prussia ever turned into Germany). I have another version of this image with 23 Prussian values listed in German. Don't worry, I won't list them here... I learned some German from my grandmother before she died. One of the original Prussians from my family tree fought for the Union and was in the Battle of Appomattox, and at the court house when Gen Lee officially surrendered. I was brought up in a Lutheran school, and even though I'm not religious now, I still try to live by those rules/values.

Reading that real Josh is 34 makes me feel so old haha

It used to be Dr. Tracksuit, the pro wrestler alter ego of Jeff Gerstmann who once was fired from game spot for giving an honest and negative review to Serious Sam. The company that produced the game paid a lot of money for advertising and Jeff refused to pander to the dollars. He left, formed the greatest video game journalism site ever made. It was recently gutted by their new corporate overlords (as in this week) and replaced with AI generated garbage.

RIP Giantbomb. You duders will be missed.

I hadn’t heard about the site. That blows.
