To me the strange part of this is all the hockey people with any ties to LA Or California hockey are saying that no negotiation are going on and the player wants to test the market. Who knows

Durzi played 72 games and had:

9 goals 29 assists

16 pp points on the second unit

just under 20 min in toi

(Evan Bouchard had 8-32-40 in 82 games played just in comparison)

Durzi is also a locker room glue guy and sticks up for teammates on the ice.

He would be a good pickup for a team that can shelter him and needs a pp quarterback.

1 more year at less than $2 million

I'd ask for a 25-30ish 1st for him or low second rounder.

The belief is negotiations have almost been completed on a Gavrikov extension; the term would be two years at around $5.7 million a year.

The problem with Gavrikov is going to be the price tag. He ended up being a perfect fit and exactly what the Kings needed last season. The problem is that he is probably worth like $4-4.5M a season and he is going to get $5-6M a season which does put him in overpaid territory for sure, but someone is going to give it to him. This was more than the Kings had until today and Gavrikov isn't going to take less and is dealing from a position of strength. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. I don't hate the idea of a short-term deal at a high price because it is easy to get out of, makes him prove his worth more, and can be traded to recoup some value if needed.

That seems like an odd move from Gavrikov's POV if that is true. He is 27, and turning 28 in November. He reached UFA at the earliest possible date since he didn't start in the NHL as a teenager. Seems odd to want to hit the market again at 29 going on 30. He's not coming off a bad season, he seems to be in demand. So, this should be the time he gets that long term deal, be it 5, 6, 7 years or whatever.

cap should be up $10 mil in 2 years, and he will be 29. other option is to take a 5 year 25 mil deal and he will be 32 33 in nov. and more then iikely would only get short term deals. Great deal for the Kings. Would much rather overpay a bit over two years than extend with a 5 year deal or something longer with a bit less AAV.

You’re getting Gavrikov’s peak years and getting out of any commitment by the time he turns 30. He may still be very good then but it gives you flexibility to decide how to move forward.

I'm just thinking $25M >>> $11.4M, in the sense you just never know if you blow out a knee or whatever. It's true that this COULD work out for him seeking his next deal when the Cap is approaching $100M. It also might not... and usually players/agents don't gamble like that. But... "interesting"... I'll be rooting for him, for sure.

He probably likes how he played and his role in LA down the stretch and thinks that parlays into a bigger retirement deal with a bigger cap in two years

Him and Roy were one of the best (2nd) pairings in the NHL down the stretch and he looked like an absolute monster
