Expansion Draft Rules, Alignment & Schedule Matrix for Las Vegas

I would add historically the Wolves have been the most difficult organization for NHL teams to deal with. Vegas is the exclusive affiliate, but it might not be correct to say the Wolves are completely controlled by them.

From what I'm understanding, and you would know better than I, the new situation is a fairly unique situation for the Wolves. Apparently, they've been difficult to deal with in the past, but relinquished some control to St. Louis last year. Apparently, that's expanded with the new affiliation and Las Vegas will operate the team from the front office down. The operation is supposed to be development-first under VGK and not operating as a completely independent hockey team with profit as the motivation as they've done in the past.

That's what everyone's saying down here. We've had a tendency to look at things a little rosier than most, though.

If that's the case then great for Vegas. Haven't delved into any changes with the Wolves operating structure the past couple years.

Adding this here since there was a lot of confusion on it. Many media outlets reported players selected by Vegas could not be traded back to their original teams. I could never find that rule in an official NHL release though. I think it may have been in the early expansion draft rule proposals, but didn't make it into the final version.

I'm assuming that one went the way of the "Vegas finishes in third for lottery purposes regardless of where they actually finish for the next three years" rule too.

Well. I hate to be the *****y fan demanding the actual Official Rules be released publicly, but I totally am the *****y fan demanding the actual Official Rules be released publicly.

There would have been a timely crowd-sourced scrutiny on the Expansion Draft rules to flush out the questions and points exactly like this prior the Draft, had they done that, but now the only ones with access to the actual rules were the teams, who obviously have no incentive to point out such curiosities to anyone else who's participating should they realize there is one, and a number of journalists who have their own angles coming into the proceedings.

"Have confirmed this with Bill Daly just now"...
