Expansion Draft II

People need to stop suggesting Weal to Vegas, especially as Flyers fans. Read the tea leaves just a little bit and keep in mind the tweet from Panaccio today where he got information directly from JP Barry. The Flyers and Weal obviously have a deal worked out, just waiting until after the expansion draft to announce so they didn't have to protect him. I could maybe see fans of other teams suggesting this but being plugged into the team we should all know what the deal is.

Vegas does still get a crack at him and if they beat our offer than he may leave.

If Vegas somehow decides to take Macdonald I would collapse in joy. Or even if we work out a deal with them.

I do feel a Raanta or Grub trade makes the most sense here though. They have Flower as their #1. They will have two pretty darn talented goalies in the waiting. There isn't going to be room for all.

Plus we have the assets to get some deals done.

I think Bellemare is a real chance to go to Vegas. McPhee is pretty old school and outside of Philly, everyone seems to love PEB from the World Cup and World Champs.

And what teams needs veteran leadership more than a brand new expansion team?

On the contrary, he's staring down Giroux, Filppula, Coots, Laughton, Rubutsov, AND #2 Overall ahead of him in the Flyers' long-term plans. In Vegas, he's got Shipachyov, Marchessault, and a bunch of either older dudes or underperforming players ahead of him. His path to regular playing time is much clearer in LV imho.
You could be right. If Vegas is in love with him and offers a significantly better deal he's gone. I think it is a bottom six role there though. I think if offers are equal think he stays here.

I think Raffl is the one who is taken tho it wouldn't surprise me if its Neuvirth just because of the McPhee factor and he has a backup friendly contract. Glad Laughton was protected. Would definitely take a run at Mrazek.

Meh, does it matter?

I mean how many 25-30 point ES LWs do you need?
Weal isn't going to be a 60 point winger even if he played on the 1st PP unit, and he's not going to get bigger or faster.

Heck, Foo still hasn't made a decision.

It could happen. PEB could be their first captain. Unless they make Fleury a captain (Canucks/Luongo style).

It matters if people want to accurately project what is going to happen in the expansion draft as it relates to the Flyers and what their lineup will look like next season. It doesn't take a whole lot of common sense to connect the dots with recent articles and tweets that a deal is already worked out between the Flyers and Weal. It just hasn't been announced so they don't have to protect him in the expansion draft.

Sure they get a crack at him. That being said, are they really going to get into a bidding war over Jordan Weal? Highly unlikely. Furthermore, if there is a deal agreed to in principle and Weal wants to stay in Philly his agent simply tells Vegas that if they have interest and that is the end of that. Like I keep saying, use common sense and connect the dots, there is already a deal done.

I think Hextall is thinking that Raffl has been squeezed out of the top 9 and deserves a shot to play top 9 elsewhere. Lindblom and 2OA made Raffls future here cloudy already.

Lindblom - G - V
TK - Coots - Fatty
Flip - 2OA - Simmer

With Weise, Laughton, Belly, Read, Vex all duking it out for 4th line

Raffl has proven he is a high end bottom 6 piece and better than all those players listed. It doesn't look cloudy to me. Even with all these players, he is the 10th best fwd on the team without doubt. He hasn't even been squeezed out yet and likely will not be on his contract. So, if his future is cloudy on a 2 year deal, I don't know why Laughton's is less cloudy for a player who had to be sent down to the AHL for a season after 100+ NHL games. If it's because they think he can play center, he's going to have to disprove an NHL resume that has shown the contrary to this point. Like I said, Laughton within the next 2 seasons is not likely better than Raffl. After that he looks like someone ready to be squeezed out himself, and he's been on the bubble already. Laughton likely will not be a top 9 player on this team either -- now or in the future.

That was my point..he is most likely not a top 9 here anymore but might be in Vegas. He would be our best 4th liner but Hextall was fine with giving up the 28 year old likely 4th liner to keep the 22 year old likely 4th liner that makes less than half the money.

If Vegas takes Neuvirth or Bellemare the Flyers could end up with a fourth line of Raffl, Laughton, and Weise which probably be one of the best fourth lines they have ever had.

Pittsburgh did MAF... he could waive it like he would have for a trade, and figure on either a LV trade... or his playing there if selected.

After they failed to trade him a while ago he told them not to even ask about waiving it anymore because he wouldn't do it. He wants the stability, not to go to a trash team for the last bit of his career.
