NHL doing its part to get a Canes goalie to Vegas.

Hanifin + PDG + 2nd for (Vatanen or Dumba) + Neal + Marchessault

Obviously a move like that probably propels us into the playoffs this year. But after that, we either lose Neal and/or Marchessault, or we probably have to give them both raises. Potentially a pretty substantial raise for Marchessault considering how little he's making. And as much as everyone likes to act like Vatanen will come back fine, I feel like a shoulder surgery should be enough to give pause if you're going that route. The whole trade definitely has some risks. I'd rather explore other trade options for Hanifin if we choose to go that route.

Every single one of those guys coming back is a FA after next year...kind of makes all those "we don't want to give up all those years of control" arguments about Duchene seem pretty pointless. There is no one on that unprotected list I'd trade a first or a D-man for.

At this point, best deal Francis can make is to give a 3rd or 4th pick for Vegas to take Lack and thus save us from having to replace Stempniak.

Vatanen and Dumba are both under team control or signed for at least 3 years. That said I think there is 0% chance that Hanifin is moved.

Heck I'd be happy even adding a guy like Bobby Ryan.

Coming up with a post for that thread was a challenge. There's not a lot available up front that (1) makes sense for Carolina financially and (2) that Vegas would benefit from by selecting in lieu of an alternative and then trading for a pick(s).

Perron was one of the few that fit that criteria having just 1 year left on his contract and the opportunity cost for Vegas being one of Jaskin/Gunnarsson/Lehtera/etc. Perron would be a Stempniak replacement in 17-18; Carolina could recoup at least partial value at the deadline if things don't go well. I bid the 52 overall pick, but I would be comfortable adding.
