Eichel, Milano, Tuch, Santini and Halverson are scratched.

I'm going to Tuesday's game vs Sweden, and really hope Eichel and Milano aren't scratched again.

I would imagine the forward group will be decided before that and they'll want to give them a game together. They could still have some indecision with the defense group though given Santini's injury.

About five left to play in the first period. U.S. leading 1-0 on goal from JT Compher. #USAWJC

US controlled the first period as you'd expect. They generated a lot of shots though not as many high quality scoring chances as I would have liked.

Compher's goal was a nice one as he took it himself through the neutral zone, beat the defender wide and went right past the frozen goalie to put it in the empty net. Motte's goal was off the hard work of Larkin and Fasching along the boards with Fasching feeding him right in front of the goalie.

Germany was able to put more pressure on the US defense at times in the second and there were a number of mistakes that lead to turnovers and chances that they weren't able to capitalize on. It's a bit worrying to see the defense struggle with this forecheck as they'll certainly see much more dangerous ones later on. The Hanifin-McCoshen pairing in particular has looked vulnerable.

The US did a better job of creating scoring chances once they got into the offensive zone but struggled to finish. They could certainly have a few more goals.

What a goal by Werenski. Holy crap.

Great individual effort. Toe dragged around two German defenders and buried the wrist shot from the hash marks.

How has Matthews looked?

Very good. He had one really exciting end-to-end rush later on in the period and has looked like he'll fit right in at the U20 level.

Bracco also had a very strong period and was creating a number of great chances besides the assist on the Wood goal. He had one of those great sequences where he flew around the entire zone while accelerating on his edges before feeding it into the slot where Downing fanned on it.

Lackluster third period in general. Nedeljkovic, who came in at the half point of the game, allowed two very soft power play goals. Louis roofed a nice backhander and the game ends 5-2.
