Malkin confirmed it to Rossi, said it happened two days ago. It was his Sewickley Heights home, not his Florida one, and they took the Stanley Cup rings.

Sucks for Geno. Hopefully his rings get returned to him. Confirmed by this guy.

You would think trying to sell something with his name on it would detract from stealing them, but whatev...

I mean, to collect something you could never tell anyone about or show off is kind of self-absorbing kind of stuff for 50/60K worth of safe paperweights never to see the light of day again.

At least (presumably) no one was hurt. Hope they find the people responsible and can get Geno's rings back.

Is it wrong to assume there'd be top-notch security in every superstar athlete's home?

The number of athletes this has been happening to lately is astounding.

I dunno. Cameras only show you were victimized. Security personnel can do inside jobs.

You would think that if you made millions a year, you could afford it. But I'm not in that price bracket so don't know if it's feasible, either. What does Geno get after base taxes? 3.5mil? Plus he's got his other house and family not bringing money in... I'm sure it does go away fast.

I hope whoever did this is trying to frame Sullivan for it. Even so he still probably wouldn't get fired.

You'd think high paid guys would have a more sophisticated security system. Leaving the safe open is just silly. I'm not uber rich but I have several cameras and open door/window alarms available and I don't even live in a bad area. The wife would be bummed to lose heirloom jewelry and my firearm collection would be of extreme interest but good luck getting to it.

Sucks that the rings got stolen but the good news is that the jeweler will have the design and easily make another. It's not THEE ring but it's certainly replaceable as far a trophy case pieces go.
