The Core is:

Hughes
Pettersson
Hronek
Willander
Lekkerimaki

Build around those players.

Demko, Miller, Boeser, Garland + prospects etc are all very valuable pieces but I'd move any of them in order to build a Stanley Cup team supporting the core's window and makeup as a team.

Hughes has set himself up well to cash in as a UFA at age 26. Do you think he stays? 2 more seasons after this season. I hope he stays for the Canucks

Demko, Miller and Boeser are aging leftover Benning players. I wouldn't be shocked if they're all moved by the summer.

Willander and Lekkermaki are your next generation coming up, but they need a lot more to retool.
Miller could easily be traded. Boeser could easily walk in UFA. But Demko I don't think we can get rid of a goalie with his talent on a 5m contract. I mean you'd get maybe a 2nd for him so why bother.

Absoloutely loves Van and being the Captain. He isnt going anywhere. He is the type that gravitates players around him to come to him not the other way around. Money will also talk with Vancouver going to be able to give him an 8th year that other teams wont.

Not sure I agree with that but I'll let others chime in. I have not watched every Canucks game but What happens if other Canuck fans don't agree with you? Who do I believe? From what I have seen, Miller is way more consistent and shows up
He's absolutely right. Miller is lazy and disinterested far too often. He can do it thats whats so frustrating. I think perhaps he just can't concentrate for long enough.

It blows my mind why any Vancouver fan would want to hitch their wagon to a guy this mentally fragile who makes $12m. Like ya'll seriously think he's gunna lead you to a cup?
The alternative is what. He's a no. 1 center. We have maybe our franchises best ever player in Quinn Hughes currently. You plan would be just get rid of a 1c?

I guess you will find out after July 2026 (less than 12 months for contract expiry). Canucks would have a full offseason to get an extension in place and find out if he wants to stay.
Well they’re the only team that can offer him 8 years so there’s a very good chance that Vancouver will be able to offer him the largest contract.

I hope he stays but if he wants to go to the US, we can't stop him (like M Tkachuk). Canucks will find out when his contract is 12 months or less (July of 2026). They would have the whole offseason to figure it out and if he don't like the 8 year offer, you will know very quickly he wants out. Then your trading someone with one full season left and get something for it.

Anyways, bring it back to Miller and Pettersson. Don't want to derail it any more. It's enough the Canucks have to deal with Miller/Pettersson let alone worry about Hughes in 2 seasons.

Nor should it tbh. Miller is the type you win with

Miller at $8m takes yall a helluva lot further than EP at $12m ever will
Trade both. Easy.

Both have bad attitudes in their own way.

Miller's best hockey is behind him.

Petey is soft. Doesn't have a killer instinct to go along with his talent level.

Moving their contracts won't be easy, but if the returns are worth it, then do it.

Hughes is the xfactor on the Canucks. Plain and simple.

Injuries are really hampering the Canucks. Joshua now on IR. A banged up team heading into the playoffs is going to be a first round exit if we stay the course.

Will be watching to see if Miller sits on the end of the bench by himself again tonight. That would speak volumes for reconciling the issue.

You can see the stands are thinning out as the season goes on. Something to put bodies back in the seats would help. The current D is not going to bring a winning streak either.

It’s hilarious to me that people are calling Miller a “winner” or the “kind of guy you win with”. He hasn’t won anything since the WJC. His last NHL team won 2 cups after trading him.

He’s more of a whiny baby than Pettersson as far as I’m concerned. You’re not the coach, shut the f*** up and play hockey. Hate personalities like him who act like they’re MJ without having anywhere near the accolades or personal ability to back it up.

Edit:
Actually Pettersson is way more of a “winner”. He won the SHL championship while being named playoff MVP unanimously (the first time ever that the voting was unanimous). He also won a gold at the World Championships. Way more than Miller has ever done.

Ehhh who knows. He's not the type of player who's going to go play for a random team but I can easily see him leaving to play with his brothers in NJ. If NJ is still top of league & Jack/Luke are on top of their games it would be very enticing. You know for a fact both his brothers would be in his ear all offseason begging him to come. The only issue is he would have to take a pay cut to come to NJ. Whether he would do that remains a mystery. It's going to be interesting when the time comes that's for sure. Whether he re-signs or goes to NJ, both scenarios wouldn't shock me at all.

I think NJ would also consider moving anyone other than the Hughes bros to make space for Quinn. Imagine a power play with Luke, Quinn and Jack. Goddamn.

I absolutely agree with you, he looks like a false leader, while he himself sometimes seems to make no effort and plays a lazy game.

It would be beautiful. Besides that we can literally have a Hughes out on the ice at all times. That would be a nightmare for all opposition.

Hard to say. It's not like they won because they traded him. And it's not like you can't win with Miller. He was excellent in the playoffs. Winning is something one team does. And one player on a team can't do it all. That said Miller has worts in terms of being a winning player. Most of them in my mind come down to concentration though. He just switches off far too often. I agree with some of your sentiment but it's not that cut and dry.

He won a division title last yr. I know it's not the playoffs but it shows hes a winner to be honest.

A division title is not winning. Miller was good in one playoffs but his team still lost. Sometimes being a “winner” is more about how you can inspire your team to be better than the sum of their parts and lift others up. He hasn’t done that and all this drama around him yelling at dudes on the team indicates that he won’t ever do that.

You don’t know the workings of TBs locker room. It’s not inconceivable that Stamkos went to Brisebois and said hey this dude is a bit of a PITA in the locker room despite working hard etc.

A good leader lifts others up and motivates them. Yelling at people isn’t leadership. Miller isn’t a winner.

If there was genuinely nothing going on between them I doubt management would be exploring trades.

As per media today, the Canucks aren't serious about trading Pettersson, Miller hasn't asked for a trade, Canucks haven't asked him to waive his NMC and he wouldn't just have NYR as is only location he would accept a trade to.

Ruthervin wouldn't be doing their jobs if they weren't listening to calls on everyone. They're famously the most proactive management team in the league.

I doubt that Miller would waive for Toronto and not sure if they could fit him in cap-wise (perhaps Knies plus going to Vancouver) but the Leafs would be absolute fools not to look into the possibility of trading for him. He is exactly what they need for a boost in the playoffs. Of course, they may have to plug their ears if they can't handle his language!
