Miller is obviously the one you want to trade. EP40 has a higher ceiling and 5 years younger.
Problem is Miller has a NMC so its pretty much Pettersson or asking Miller to waive which will certainly lower his value because then Miller gets to demand where he will go.

Demko being on a sweetheart deal means nothing and has absolutely gone to heck in the last calendar year in case you hadnt noticed.

To quote varsity blues, "Things change Mox, Lanks is the starting goaltender now".

Mason McTavish and 11.6 million in capspace for example should be enough wiggle room to find a new center even in this centerless enviroment we live in.

Cole Sillinger and 6 million in capspace for example should be enough wiggle room to find a new center to replace Miller as well.
Demko's injury history doesn't change the fact that the teams best chance at winning is with him in net on his current deal. When his deal ends we'll likely be in a lot of trouble. Doesn't negate his unreliability but Lankinen while he's played admirably isn't taking this team anywhere in the playoffs. There is a reason he is a career backup.

The McTavish ++ deal certainly piques my interest where basically every other Petey proposal hasn't. Mctavish kinda projects as a 2c though so youre trading a young 1c for a 2c sure you get the cap space but there aren't any truly obv UFAs to target. McTavish + Mintyukov is one of the few proposals where I would actually give it some thought. Trading Petey for two young players with the potential to pop isn't the worst idea though. Of course it would mean mailing in this season which is difficult to accept for any ownership let alone the Aquillini's.

Miller to the NYI for a protected 2025 1st (1OA) and Romanov
No thanks from the isles....we are in cap hell to begin with. I don't want a 32 yr old center signed for 8M for the next 6 years. We don't have much defense, giving up our Top young (24) LD doesn't make sense when we are NOT in a win mode right now. We are rebuilding.

Please list the 25 guys signing for more than 11.6 in the next year.

Mikko Rantanen
Mitch Marner
Evan Bouchard

For starters.

Does Tavares take a paycut or after all these years of cap going up does he take his 11 again? Easy to say hes not worth it or doesnt need it but i could see JT.

Then whatever the new 8x8 is the kids get after their ELCs when they cap rises 12 million over the next 16 months.

Is it 11 x8s for Marco Rossi, Wyatt Johnston types?

Then I have to assume Kyle Connor gets a 11+ waiting for him under the tree next christmas.

Artemi Panarin as well even ifs its not longterm.

Eichel and Mcdavid probably get xmas gifts over 11.6 as well.

Bobs one more at 11?

John Carlson? Albeit likely shortterm.

Makar, Kaprizov are guaranteed.

Laine in a perfect world for him.

There's 15 off the top of my head that could have signed deals as early as this date next year.

Maybe not 25 ok but point is the Pettersson contract will only age well IF he gets back on track.

It definetly wont scare anyone away other than maybe a cheap owner who doesnt do signing bonuses.

I thought you guys wanted a defensive RD for your top 4. A 1st that's looking like a top ten pick. Except of course,if it's the 1st overall
We need a puck moving dman for the 2nd pair. And a Center in return.

The value is pretty decent given the pick is like top 5 currently but I don't think the Canucks can do a trade where the main piece in return is a draft pick.

Okay. Miller just seems like a Lou kind of guy. I'll admit, I didn't think about Horvat in that proposal.

Once upon a time the bruins traded Jumbo for peanuts then like a year later signed Zdeno and Marc Savard then later won the cup.

Once upon a time NYR put out a letter stating core is stale and theyre blowing up Callahan McDonough, ect. Later signed Artemi and have been a powerhouse ever since.

We are a great orginization in a great locale. Id love to see our TSN turning point and be able to point to that and giggle at all the Buffalo Columbus Calgary types that we lapped in the field while retooling.

Id love to be the team to take advantage of another because we opened huge capspace and theyre nickle and diming their stars on July 1st.

Marner, McTavish, Minty >>>>> Petey

Rantanen, Nazar, Korchinski >>>>> Petey

I think you're misremembering. The Bruins traded Thornton for scraps and he went on to win a hart and an art ross and generally known as one of the 100 greatest players ever. The fact that they signed Chara and he became a legend himself was great for them but not really connected to making a terrible hockey trade.

Trading McDonagh was another terrible deal. He was traded with JT Miller for basically a 1st. Went on to win multiple cups and the Rangers won none.

Marner is going to get probably 13-14 mil, McTavish 3.5 (maybe on a bridge), Minty has one more yr off elc 900k So ya that is 17.5 mil vs Petey at 11.5.

I see what you are saying and maybe it's something to explore in the summer right before the draft. Get an inside track on Rantanen or Marner and then you dish Petey for a more future oriented package.

The Petey for Mctavish and Minty is the one deal I actually would consider. The major problem with it though is unless you think McTavish and Minty are about to pop off you kinda have to develop them for 2-3 yrs till they hit their prime, then Miller is 35 and you Quinn needs a 15 mil per contract.

And in our case id hope we'd get actual value back not Sturm, Primeau and Stuart :)

So an actual haul for Petey, then sign one of those two top UFAs yes.

Your math is correct and I dont mind it one bit. 17.5 for three roster players in return for one at 11.6.

So for 6 million of our own capspace we swap Petey for Rantanen or Marner and fill two other important roster spots with TOP young talent.

Yeah I like that approach.

There hasnt been a player like Pettersson available in a long time (if he is available).

26 YO in his prime guaranteed for the next 8 years. If he was playing at his top shape, he obviously wouldnt be available.

I think the most recent comparison is Jack Eichel, but even Eichel wasnt on Peteys level when he was traded. Also Eichel had major injury concerns with his spine.

BUF received

Tuch
Krebs
1st
2nd

If Petey were to be traded, i could see a similar package except a bit more.

Young top 6 player (preferably center or D)
Top prospect (at the time of the trade Krebs was Vegas's top prospect)
Mid 1st
2nd

Its either that, or a top player in a 1 for 1 trade.

At the end of the day, we are talking about a career PPG player with 400+ GP. Hes gonna command a lot.
