Rumor: Everything JT Miller | Elias Pettersson trade Thread | Part 409

I know people are drawing obvious lines between this rumor, and the disgruntled Nemec stuff.

But the Canucks have Hronek and Willander as long term top 4 RD options.

We need an LD.

That said, I suspect that if we deal with Jersey it's going to be Mercer and a 1st included, along with something to balance cap and perhaps a secondary prospect who isn't Casey, Silayev, or Nemec.
I don't think Miller has that much value. His contract is running until 37 with an NMC and reported locker room issues is going to heavily limit his market. The Rangers were trying to build a trade around Zibanejad, I don't see the Devils trading Mercer and a first round pick.

I imagine Palat would have to be involved but with his NMC that will likely be an issue.

That's a fair rebuttal. I just think you'd get outbid if it was for much less.

The NMC and his age and the drama are baked in.

I have liked Mercer for a long time (reminds me of a mini Parise), but him and a first would not be a remote starting point for what MIller's value was in June of this year.

A team is paying for Miller’s age 32-37 season at $8M, taking the risk of both decline and locker room concerns and dealing with limited competition due to his NMC and cap hit which limits teams available to trade for him.

I think the Canucks will be happy to trade him without a bad contract coming back let alone expecting multiple good assets back.

The devils, if they trade for Miller are likely giving them a disgruntled Nemec and Mercer who Vancouver likes.
vancouver says yes and takes that deal and run.

nj gets miller+ suter or whichever roster player.
van gets mercer/one of their D prospects not named nemec. seamus casey/topias vilen.
/ 2025 2nd or 2026 1st.

Pettersson 10 goals 19 assists - 29 points
Zacha 10 goals 14 assists- 24 points
Not really that much of a difference in points and Zacha i
don't tell me you're gonna use this sample size to think their the same level players... good riddance hfboards.....
JT Miller to Calgary (in exchange for Andersson).

Andersson wants to move. He could play with Hughes or fellow Swede Willander.
He literally said he hates Vancouver and Edmonton......

which means they probably spoke.
Trade happening any year now
yes, I got news for. A team is gonna be trade between now and trade deadline.

If this situation is true, the Canucks might be best to trade both of them for great packages, similar to when the Flyers traded both Richards and Carter within hours on the same day. Trading one of them could be a no-win situation...

Scenario 1: Trade Miller & keep Pettersson
This is the most likely option, considering Pettersson is younger, more skilled, and a fan favorite. But this has the potential to backfire since Miller is the type of player who could explode on his new team and put up gaudy numbers in bunches. If that were to happen, the pressure on Pettersson to reemerge as an elite producer would increase 10-fold which could amplify the fan's frustration if he falls short. And the ensuing drama could be disastrous.

Scenario 2: Trade Pettersson & keep Miller
If this were to happen, most of the hockey world (mainly Canucks fans) would believe the club "chose Miller over Petey" and that could lead to verbal pitchforks being used against JT. If Pettersson were to thrive in his new surroundings, and/or Miller struggled in Vancouver, the fans could turn on the player, management, and even Tocchet... and towards the most crucial time of the year. If the Canucks felt forced to deal Miller at the deadline, the narrative would be that they traded the wrong player off the rip and the organization needs to be held accountable. Again, disaster.

Scenario 3: Trade both players at the same time
While very unlikely, IMHO, this could be the best decision for the Canucks in terms of risk/reward and potential fall-out. Best case: the players rally around the move and the incoming bodies help team chemistry and the Canucks move on. Worst case: One or both players get a new lease on life in a fresh market and play great hockey. While that would sting, the reality is that there is currently an issue that needs resolving and Pettersson hasn't been the same player since he inked that massive deal. Fans have seen enough to know that "change" was likely inevitable. Using the Richards & Carter example... both of those players went on to greener pastures and won Cups... but Flyers fans took it in stride because:

A.) They realized that both moves needed to be made for multiple reasons

B.) The team acquired significant pieces in return (ended up being Simmonds, Schenn, Voracek, and the pick to land Couturier).

Trading both players deflects the blame toward them (i.e., they couldn't coexist in Vancouver which is their fault and not the team's). In this day and age, I feel that the average fan can't relate to multi-millionaire, professional athletes underperforming because they cannot overcome a squabble.

Scenario 4: Keep both players
Status quo. Smoke, rumors, drama.

if JT Miller is so amazing, why do the Canucks want to seemingly dump him so badly?

not sure if you're trying to be sarcastic or not.

if you look at his numbers in the last 4 years, he's literally a top 10 player in the league and that's with the 4 year sample size, not one year snippet like all these clowns often do on hfboards.com

so the numbers are not lying. You can't find many forwards in the NHL with comparable numbers to him with 5 seasons.
Playoffs he was a beast. This is also not a lie.

now suddenly why he might wanted to be dump, is his struggling play. We crunched numbers on our own. This season alone, Petey played better without him in the line up. The team played better while he was out.

We feel that if hes the problem in the locker room, than we have to move on. It's unfortunate. stuff like this happens. We have to deal with it. You can laugh at us all you want. Its unfortunate.

If Miller is the issue in Vancouver then there's no way in hell that the Devils are going to trade for him with both Hughes brothers with Quinn in Vancouver's locker room, it would be ass backwards from NJD.

Fitz to Luke/Jack: "Should we get JT Miller out of Vancouver?"

Luke/Jack: "Not from we hear from Quinn up there"

Convo ends right there about the Devils acquiring him

I've been saying this the whole time, the leaked Devils interest is a ploy to make NYR's offer better.

I don't know what's going on in the Canucks locker room, but I agree that if Quinn is talking shit about Miller, he's just not going to be a devil.

If there's anyone who probably has the most insight to what's happening there in the league besides the Vancouver players, it's probably the Hughes brothers lmao

So they’re feigning interest in a player they don’t even want so that NYR has to give up more assets for the guy? That’s some real Sun Tzu shit
