Funny thing about player value, future of the contract doesn't reduce it. Miller is obviously being traded and that is affecting him, but these last few games won't affect his value. The absolute fact that he has been one of the highest producing centers in the league for 4 years now is where is value is determined. And before the last few games where he's packed it in, he was still a ppg player.
His super long contract lowers his value sadly.

I don't think there is a market for either player. There are too many question marks.
Plus, the there is the length and size of Their contracts to consider. Both Petey and Miller
are likely to stay in Vancouver and both can play better.

Well.

How about Miller and a throw in for say....Nemec (rumoured to be unhappy) and the Canucks eat Palat and the Devils throw something else in too.

Would any Devils fan feel like that would be viable depending on what each teams assets/needs and cap space looked like?

And before Canucks fans get uppity here, understand that Jiricek went for a 1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th and a young meh defenseman in Hunt with 11 points in like 54 games while Nemec has like 37 points in 69 games or something while being locked behind a strong right defense in NJ

You're not getting nemec for Hoglander, Raty, and scraps.

Hes only willing to waive for the Rangers. Not much the Canucks can do because they wont trade him for garbage.

This will drag out into the off season unless Miller will waive somewhere else or the Canucks get a stupid offer for Pete.
Thx..........crazy situation, they just gave him money and term, and it's gone sour.
Buying him out would cost the team a fortune.
Someone should get fired for signing this guy, giving him $$$, term and a no movement clause......

I'd love Mercer on the Nucks but it's very doubtful he gets moved.

Nemec makes perfect sense.

To make the cap work, Palat is understandable but he also has a NMC.

If he's willing to waive, Palat, Nemec + NJ's 2026 1st.

I think Nemec would be part of the package considering this came out yesterday.

But how do you fit that going forward? Are Canucks willing to take Palat back? That seems to really be the only other way. If not, and I didn't look at their deadline cap, but going forward beyond that, Hamilton has to be moved I would think.

Palat is for sure overpaid and could help solve any cap implications with this trade, but the Devils are looking for depth at forward, and Palat, contract aside, would be taking even more away from forward depth. Yes, Miller would add a much higher end talent, but adding someone like him could push Palat down and beef up depth in the bottom 6, so not sure if he’s really someone Fitz would be looking to get rid of in season, nor someone I’d imagine VAN would insist on being in the deal.

Miller is such an enigma to me. Overly harsh on other guys but then lazy and inconsistent? Bad personality type
And that's the issue with players of his ilk. Add in his sulkiness and you have a guy who will wear out his welcome in a room...with teammates and coaches alike. And it's frustrating. We have seen how good he can be over a very large stretch of games. But when the malaise sets in it's just wow.

Boeser 50% retained + Pius Suter would be a way better match for NJ IMO. That package has good value and would have a big impact on the depth and scoring for the Devils.

That's not the cap space I though they would be looking at taking back right now. Curious if Hamilton would be the guy they want to move?

That could make sense in the off season, but not right now with a full no move. And I'd wager that Hamilton won't have Vancouver on his trade list.

I still don't think they're going to trade Nemec, at least not until the summer. At minimum you can't trade him until you actually have re-sign Kovacevic, so throw him off the board.

The guy I'd look at here would be Mercer, I think, but that really doesn't help the devils depth problem. Just strengthens the top 6

I don't think involving Nemec in this trade is something either team is going to be super interested in.

-Vancouver is trying to win and needs defensemen that can help them out in a big way, in a big role, this season. Nemec has a ton of potential, but I don't think he does that for them at the moment. They likely wouldn't be willing to accept a guy who is still a bit of an unknown quantity/will likely experience growing pains as the centerpiece of a return for someone as good as Miller.

-New Jersey's window is just opening and Nemec is potentially going to be a good player on a reasonable contract for them going forward. They need those, especially with needing to pay Luke next season.

Something that would make more sense for both teams is something like Miller for Hamilton. It would also make the money work for both sides.

Cam Robinson is legit, he doenst just throw out rumors out there out of the blue.

As for Miller getting traded, i honestly dont see how anyone can trade for him right now.

He seems super distracted and disengaged. Whatever happened to him that caused him to take a personal leave must be really big. I hope everything is okay for Miller outside of hockey.

He does not seem like himself at all... I wouldnt be suprised at all Miller takes another leave of absence and this time it would be for the rest of the season. Something outside of hockey is going on for him.

I dont see how any contending team can gamble taking that on.
