Demko was not the sole reason for the Canucks success last year and him not being in Vezina-form is not the reason they've fallen off this year. It is pretty much down to injuries (their whole core has been off for weeks to months), the defense and the fact that the core, when they have been healthy, has embarrassingly underperformed outside of Hughes.

Last season vs. this season (credit to sting101):

Boeser..........46 - 27 = (-19)
Miller............49 - 29 = (-20)
Pettersson....57 - 29 = (-28)
Hronek..........36 - 09 = (-27)
Figuring out why these guys have dropped off so much is the secret ingredient to turning this around. You'd think Boeser would be playing for a contract and one of the two C would be proving their value. Miller does in the playoffs though, so I'd hold off judgment on him until the final handshake.

Visually, it just looks like Pettersson is playing himself out of town with his efforts since signing to many fans.

Pettersson 10 goals 19 assists - 29 points
Zacha 10 goals 14 assists- 24 points
Not really that much of a difference in points and Zacha is not having his best year either.
Pettersson at 11.6 million until 2032 is a real ugly contract
Zacha at 4.75 until 2027 is a much better contract.
I think the Bruins will stick with Zacha.
