I don't think any non-Canucks fans seem to understand that this really has little to do with a locker room "rift". There's just a different standard now with the management fully settled in, and Quinn Hughes as the captain.
JT Miller and Pettersson are terrific players. Nobody really cares how they interact in the room.
But to this point, they haven't won anything. The reality has set in that neither one is a Franchise player - merely very good, elite, all star level players.
Management is just exploring all avenues to make the team better, and it may require moving a major piece to accomplish what Allvin + JR are trying to do.
I'm personally very much opposed to trading JT Miller, and honestly think his contract is great. He's also not wrong for trying to push EP40 to be better. He has his own warts, but we love this guy. Perhaps he's a bit too harsh with it, but how would any of us know that? He seems like a bit of an asshole, sure. But you need guys like this to win in a cruel, physical sport like ours.
Pettersson on the other hand, I'm very open to moving off if the right deal comes along. He's a very good player, with some rare skills in his arsenal. But the point here is - he is not some untouchable player.
All of the offense runs through Quinn Hughes. If you can't read his plays well enough, and learn to cash in on the innumerable chances he creates for you, we will eventually have to find somebody who can. Petey has shown chemistry in the past, but the last 60ish games (including two playoff rounds)... Quinn isn't even looking to pass to him. The play just dies on his stick, especially on the PP. It's not working anymore. It is very easy to imagine a player whose skills better mesh with a QH-lead offense.
The front office knows what they have in Pettersson. There is no rush to move this guy for anything less than the biggest trade package we've seen post-pandemic. But they are open to a massive shakeup if somebody steps up with the right offer.
