The NHL needs to be doing this nightly.

The fine is meaningless the reputation matters. Diving and embellishment is egregious.

They've had this fine/ suspension policy for how many years now? And they rarely ever use it.

I agree games should be reviewed nightly by the officiating department. Obvious dives get fines. After all they are embarrassing the officials by diving and making the refs jobs harder.

So this is a thing -

Between the fine to Granato and the fine to Cousins, the league is up $27K at the moment.

Just to be clear…Cousins was fined 2 grand for cheating the game, fooling the refs and getting away with it

And Granato was fined 25 thousand dollars and given a penalty for a late full 2 minute 5 on 3 against for being angry about how the refs called the game

Cool.
Cool.

Didn’t the Marlins have a player named Cousins back in the day who injured Buster Posey?

Gotta love seeing Buffalo penalized in the game (4 minutes for this garbage + a later minor because Granato had the audacity to criticize the refs, so they gifted Florida a 5-on-3), and Granato had to eat a $25k fine for calling that horseshit out. But then weeks later the league sheepishly admits he was right and fines Cousins a measly $2k. Great work, guys.

Sure looks like Greenway clocked him right in the face without any provocation. That is usually called a penalty. Dunno what you see with your Cousins hate- glasses tho. The only take from this incident is that players should roll around the ice and wait for the stretcher to avoid getting fined.

I usually don’t condone this - but in this case it’s perfectly acceptable.

Who ever plays the panthers first round need to dress an AHL goon for game one. First shift cousins is on the ice take him out for the playoffs/series. Knee on knee, dropping gloves and pummelling him until he’s loses teeth/concussed.

Whatever. It’s all good in this case. It’s actually protecting the other players on the ice.

AHL goon gets rewarded by the team off the ice with funds - gets a huge suspension likely and never sees the ice again.

If cousins draws back in on a later series - rinse and repeat with new team.
No that's not acceptable at all. Wishing a major injury on someone just because they hurt you in the feels is pretty lame.

Blatant embellishment needs to start at an automatic 5 and a game, with a 1 game suspension after. Double the suspension for each repeat offence. This garbage needs to be completely removed from the game.

The doghouse
So this is a dive. The sabres were penalized for this. Then the sabres received an additional penalty because the coach yelled at the officials for such a bad call. And then after the fact, the league fined the sabres coach 25K for correctly being upset, and cousins 2K for the dive.

It is just a series of incompetent events from the NHL
