Arvidsson-Henrique-Brown
J. Skinner-Janmark-Perry
Ryan

Interesting lines.

I was curious if they would try Janmark as the 4C. No reason why he can’t succeed in that role. Hes smart and skates well. We will see.

I think Ryans time is up. Philp should be pushing him out anyway

Funny story about the 90's.

It's the very last decade with identifiable cultural markers.
Fashion. Music, Film, TV etc.

I've been a Character Artist in video games since 2000. And as someone who's worked in a visual medium professionally for 25 years, it is impossible to "Art Direct" anything that looks like it's from 2000 and beyond (outside of people holding smartphones).

I can make a game, or a film, or a music video look like it took place in the 90's, 80's, 70's, 60's, 50's.

But 2000 and after? There's no music, no fashion, hairstyle, nothing indicating the decade it was from.

The internet killed and homogenized everything, so there's no overarching cultural narrative.
what are you talking about? the 2000s have a look. especially the mid 2000s. The whole jersey shore look, ed hardy shirts, parasuco jeans with obvious washing and buttons all over the place, round oakley sunglasses, woman wearing leggings with a vest, long straight blond hair, caked on concealer, bubble gum lip balm. low rise jeans. everything was burnt orange and brown in decor, men wore smart casusal leading from the late 2000s to the early 2010s.

The 2010s have the whole hipster things going with mustache iconography, man buns, long beards, ironic plaid, lumberjack look. ombre hair on women, ridiculously deep v neck shirts, scoop hemmed shirts, rise of streetwear and jeggings.

These decades absolutely have a look and fashion.

That’s how I always saw it too. The distinction of the decades disappears with the bland ass 2000s. Interesting to hear it from someone that works in your industry, that can mostly objectively verify it.
i disagree wholeheartedly. As someone who was in my early to mid 20s during this time. See above for examples.

Vegas has one the easiest schedules left this year (when you takethe upcoming opponents place in the standings currently)

Edmonton has the 6th "easiest" though

This is their games coming up

Jeff Skinner seems to be the odd man out. Wonder if they'll trade him. He's no good in the bottom 6 and not producing for the top 6.

What about Connor and Leon? Lol
Production from the bottom 6 is still a benefit though. Lots of teams in the leagues (most teams actually) rely on that. For far too long we have expected our bottom 6 to just play “even”. We don’t even expect scoring out them.

In the playoffs where teams focus down McDrai and nullify their impacts. Having some extra goals from the bottom 6 is not a bad thing. And JSkinner has that ability.

Are those just fads and trends though? I think you think back to 80s fashion you have a singular distinct vision in your mind. Same with 70s. It muddies a
bit in the 90s cause it started off bright and loud coming out of the 80s, but then gets into grunge era looks. And that muddiness seems to have continued into the 2000s. Like when people are going to look back at the 2000s are they thinking Christian Audigier and Juciy Couture? I don’t know. There were trends but I don’t know if they defined an entire decade of looks.

With the hipster trend I do think that’s more distinct though. And while indie music hit its peak in these years, it still never dominated the mainstream cause Radio has been so commercialized where music isn’t really about quality but more about who you know and what can sell. So hipster trend definitely distinctive but alot more niche than in the past.

But mostly we are talking about fashion here, with music there was an 80s sound, and 70s sound that is invoked when thinking of those eras. I’m not sure we have that for the 2000s, or 2010s it’s like all over the map genre and sound wise.

as long as Arvidsson is healthy from here on out and he's put his annual injury bug behind him, he should be OK in the middle 6
Yeh let’s hope this is the end of his injury worries. I want to see him build on the high motor o zone game we saw before injury. And add some cleaner execution. The story’s not over with this guy, he can still be a big part of the picture here.

no, we have a media controlled narative what the trend was. In the 1980s not everyone was goign around with hairnet spiked hair, neon colours and hair metal looks. There was tons of muddiness in the culture and fashion of the day, it wasn't a homogenous look, the 80s wasn't a long madonna video, despite what stranger things tries to tell us. The 90s feel muddled to us now because a lot of us were around during it and the cream hasn't completely separated from the chaff. We still remember the highs AND the lows

Our view of those decades are poisoned by years of media telling us what it was like. We all know the really popular shows, bands and stuff because it survives. In 2040 they'll be saying the same stuff about us and our culture. The rise in period piece movies like Goodfellas, dazed and confused, super bad etc are colouring our view of the previous decades.

Literally everything you listed existed as a series of sub-cultures before 2000's and still exist in the 2020's.

You're just listing shit that doesn't pin it to any particular decade.

I used to work on a pretty popular video game called Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.

You are literally describing the "Create-a-skater" feature we had in the game where I had to make Man-buns, plaid lumberjack shit, hair on women, Deep V-necks, smart-casual, customizable lip gloss, low-rise jeans, scoop hemmed shirts, and jeggings".

You're literally not describing anything unique that existed after the 90's.

Guidos and hipsters existed as a subculture in the 90s.

I see your point. Media definitely does paint a picture of what that decade was all about in a nutshell. But within that decade of course there were still varied looks, people are people and people are different.

But the thing is, and what Perfect Drug talked about, is that as a media creator you COULD pick out a distinctive look of a decade if you wanted to convey that decade. And it would be understood by viewers to be of that decade.

Could movie makers do the same with the 2000s and 2010s? I don’t now.

I will say that maybe the issue we aren’t far enough removed from those decades for its distinction to come out. Or maybe I’m just being an old man yelling at clouds here, and I’m not appreciating the distinction that was there. I’ve always personally thought music took a nose dive in the late 90s going into 2000s, atleast mainstream music.

Good god stop playing Skinner.
It’s garbage like last game that has cost this team so many wins both in the regular season and playoffs. Bro can’t absorb a shot, let’s in bad goals etc. there’s enough of a sample size. He’s not a starter. And management refuses to do anything.

Also the 90s rocked lol

Personally, I can tell the 2000's apart from the 1990s easily.

Like that poster said. It was all of this Ed hardy sh**, bedazzler looking jeans crap, Juicy Couture lol. Baggy t shirts and baggy in general (that has made a comeback).

Music wise, I don't think the 2000s are much different sounding then everything up until this mumble rap crap, etc. I guess T-Payne started that electronic voice thingy in the late 2000s"

Good god stop playing Skinner.
Lets see how he rebounds tonight. As well as the entire team and their drunken D game

You may just be remember trends of that decade. I remember them too. Like baggy jeans I mean that was a thing, it was also a thing in the 90s and now back today. But is there one singular dinstinct look though? Or is it a mish mash of trends.

I think starting around late 90s, Mainstream music has become whatever the evolutions of rap and hip hop are and whatever pop star(s) they want to prop up for their 15 minutes of fame.

Gone are the days of talent being discovered and that musical style taking over an entire nation. Now pop stars are created, before they used to be discovered.
