Proposal: Evans to the Devils

[Habs Halifax]

Hello Devils fans. Just wondering if there is zero interest in this or if it's something you would consider. Devils appear to be solid at RD and have Nemec developing in the AHL. Devils are rumored to have Evans on their target list.

* Habs or Flames 1st (whichever is best but lottery protection... probably falls around 10-15 range)
* Evans with extension (pretend it's a deal you like... maybe 5x $3.5M?)
* One of Mailloux or Engstrom (RD or LD... your choice)
for
* Nemec

Habs can retain on Evans to give you the most cap space possible for your run. Devils can either keep the 1st the Habs give or use it on another trade for a bigger TDL add.

I like where your head is at with this deal because Evans is the exact kind of player NJ should be targeting. I'd think NJ would prefer to land him for non 1st round picks but if that's not feasible, I wouldn't be shocked if they took a deal similar to this.

As a Habs fan i would totally make that deal even add a 2nd from MTL

At this point, no one will consider any of those a high 1st, most likely middle on the round.
Mailloux has some serious flaws defensively.

But I could see extended Evans + better 1st being enough. More so if retained.

I think it's a bit much but not by a lot.

I also think NJ would prefer a forward prospect over Dman. Roy could fit the bill.

I do think it's a little overpayment from the Habs but Nemec was the #2 OA pick and there is still lots to like his his game. Maybe it's more fair if Mailloux/Enstrom is taken out?

Regardless, the base of the deal is 1st (10-15 range) and Evans for Nemec.

Kapanen & Beck being almost ready, it would provide them with playing time.

I think I would nuance the pick as the worst of 2025 1sts as opposed to the best. Might not be a big difference at the end but I would be more incline to do it.

Someone on the Habs boards ask earlier today... what would it cost to acquire Nemec? It just connected with the Evans trade talks and how he fits the Devils needs. Habs would take a little setback without Evans but we do have younger guys who are close to NHL ready and lets face it, Habs are making noise at our playoff chase but it's going to be hard to get in. Evans might walk and we get nothing.

Nemec and Reinbacher join Hutson and Guhle and the Habs use Matheson and Carrier to buy us time.

Nemic fits our 7/8 year age range between Suzuki and Demidov.

The 3rd piece the Habs may or may not add shouldn't block the deal regardless.

Evans is worth a 25+ 1st or two early 2nd's. One of the Habs or Flames 1st is likely 10-15 range. So that's basically 13 and 25 for Nemec who was drafted 2nd but has not earned a full time spot yet due to the Devils RD depth.

Yup! I'm a big fan of Matheson but if we have a rising Nemec and also Reinbacher (on ELC or bridge deals), we can trade Matheson for a future and have cap space available as well.

It makes a lot of sense for both sides.. for the now and the future.

I have one question... Do the Devils say no if Evans refuses an sign/trade?

huh. Kind of outside the box. I don't HATE it. Ideally, if Nemec were to be traded, I would like to target a similarly aged forward. I like Evans a lot but he does turn 29 this summer.....

I still think Nemec is going to be a good NHL player. And I would much rather look to move Hamilton first.

If the Habs would also take back Haula's contract, it would make this more appealing.

Got to give to get and Habs do have a lot we can give. Was different in the past when our pool was shallow. Things have changed.

Anyways, send the memo to both the Habs and Devils GM. I would hate to lose Evans but the Habs are still in transition regardless of how much progress we have made since Nov. The long game should remain our plan. One of Beck, Kapanen, Hage can fill that 3C role but the Habs may have to use Newhook temporarily

I feel like Nemec as an asset is still pretty valuable and if used as trade bait should be used for a more high value player. I’d rather add to Nemec and get something better in return.

Or just let him cook and earn a spot on the roster. I like Kovacevic but I don’t think he’s long term. I might be wrong but with the log jam the Devils have at RD he’s probably the most expendable going forward.
