I said it before and I'll say it a again. He is new Lars Eller and is asking for the current version of Lars Eller money. Its probably fair. Maybe we do some deffered salary + bonus combo shenanigans to get the cap hit lower.
No more than 4 years @ $3.5 AAV for a solid guy with limited scoring ability.

Lot of money for a guy who has 1 goal in his last 23 games and only 3 assists. He had a hot streak for about 2 weeks otherwise a really weak career.

Right away no but wont take the 5 years Evans wants.
As long as Evans continues to play well over the next few years he would be tradeable if/when a young guy is ready to replace him. If in 2 years we are looking to move him because he's lost his spot you can quite easily trade him, we probably get something similar to what Nashville got for Carrier, a prospect with potential but going through struggles.

I'm leaning towards moving him as if I have any f***ing say

We always tend to be starved for C's and this obviously influences my desperation, but he's cashing in on his last big pay day, which is completely understandable.
HuGo have shown 0 inclination to go long on term or keep guys past an expiration date - IF they can get rid of them (Lehkonen, Toffoli, Monahan, etc) so I think he's gone.
That being said, they obviously have a plan to find someone to play 2 & 3 C.
I don't think it's Dach....Beck is the 4C next year imo

The two of them don't go together. I'd be inclined to give him 2 years/$8M. This way the Habs kinda thank him for his already done work and a small bit of what should be left of his prime years. 5 years is way too much for Evans with the Habs. I can see a team giving him something like 5years/$27.5M ($3.5M per year), I think that would suck for the Habs because they would trade him at some point in the future with less value if they trade him with term passed his prime (in year 3 of a 5 year deal, he will be 31, year 3 because I would have signed him for 2).

Good Luck to you Evans :)

Sign him up.

Four years ago the Habs lost Danault and it took until this year to replace him with Evans.

Four years before that the Habs lost Eller and it took a few years until Danault took over that role.

Yes Evans will be overpaid at the contract but it is a contract that will be worth it. You know he will be a great penalty killer. You know he always hustles. You know he would be a good role model for younger players.

If Beck is Evans eventually replacement then it may take him a few years to reach that level. Sounds like the Habs want to make the playoffs as soon as next year.
