I'll say it again. If there were no flaws with the player we wouldn't be getting a 25 goal-scoring power forward with a unique skillset signed for 5 million and just 1 more year for a 4th round pick. This is what we have to do when we need to take some big risks when we have a team that has lots of holes to fill and not many assets or cap space to fill them.

Would I prefer to have a model human with no baggage? Sure. But if he can not blow-up the room, and not let whatever personal baggage he has distract him or the team then its fine.

I'm predicting a lot of crow eating in the future. The exact same posters poo pooing and hand-wringing over this trade are the exact same posters that said they wouldn't go anywhere near Perry at league minimum after he was kicked off the Blackhawks. He then proceeded to score clutch OT goals and finish 4th in goals this past postseason.

Kane is an ass and history suggests he's not a great person. But he has more or less kept his nose clean the last few years. Still issues but not the distraction he was. Still don't want him in a canucks uniform but there is some possibility he has reformed some the last few years and shown he can function as a somewhat normal person.

Perry was signed immediately after, well, being "fired" for sexual harassment. No one should have been touching Perry at that time. It's more equivalent to when the Oilers signed Kane when there was nothing to suggest he'd learned anything yet.

He's on an expiring contract and didn't spend any real assets.
You're moving the goal post here. Now we could still flip Kane to another team but you were adamant that management wouldn't acquire an older winger like Kane as it would go against everything management said.

Who doesn't have baggage? Geezus we are supposed to ice a team of lady bing winners here?

Go read Oilers fans comments - many of them raving about what a great team and community guy he has been. God if I was judged on all the dumb shit I've done (and learned from) in my life I wouldn't be allowed on these boards.......

A contract year for a physical power top 6 forward on a very reasonable contract........last I looked that was a pretty massive need for us. Play him with Petey or Rossi and let him smack anyone who messes with them.

Lastly this guy apparently WANTED to come here........that alone helps a lot.

I don’t like Kane and I agree with everything you said.

On ice wise, this is a great add with low risk

He just took the entire regular season off, was great in the playoffs and is on a contract year. Just like Tom Wilson, kinda a unicorn in the league, one of the few last PWF.

Off ice? As long he doesn’t cause trouble in the locker room, which he did not in EDM. I really don’t care what he does outside of the rink

Not a great signing for $5M, but at least it's only 1 year left. Kane's got more downsides to upsides. But if he's healthy, might be a good short term signing.

What you get is:

Pro
- Can still put up 25G/50pt seasons
- Crash and bang
- Get people off their game
- Hot streaks like he's an all star

Con
- Old
- Injury prone
- Cold streaks like he's Mr Invisible
- Takes bad penalties

I don't see the risk here. We gave up a 4th-round pick, he's on the final year of his contract, and apparently, he was liked in Edmonton and wants to be here. Worst case, we pay him what he's owed this season, he plays okay, and we let him walk for nothing, chasing the playoffs. Moderate case is he plays okay, we move him at the TDL. Best case, he's a great fit, replaces Boeser, and we resign him to a decent deal.
