It just seems like such a missed opportunity to have had his hernia taken care of and then utilize the added cap space due to his hernia. A healthy Kane + $5 million of added players would've been the difference in this series IMO. I really wonder if it was Evander or the team that told him that he should play through it? We need him healthy next season if he's coming back.

If Kane was truly suffering from a hernia from the beginning on the year, not putting him on LTIR was moronic. Going forward, I still like the player but I question where he fits. He has looked his best with McDavid, but I haven't quite seen the same chemistry with Drai. I'm very open to trading him if we can find a more versatile forward with his cap.

If is a big word.

If he was that injured long term IR should have happened. It would have been interesting if the Oilers used the LTUR loop hole if the nhl would have stept in.

Oilers had a good run

Versatility is nice, but I don't like the idea of giving up a rare unicorn like Kane.

Truth be told, I'd prefer to grab another 220lb+ forward, so they're not as dependent on Kane being the only one that can fill that role. It doesn't need to be a big move, it can be as simple as giving Lavoie a shot, or bringing back Kostin, hell it could be Maroon in UFA market.

The Oilers' lose the ability to lean on teams when Kane's not in the lineup and/or fully healthy, and without that I don't see a path to winning in the playoffs.

The difference in this series was Leon not playing like Leon and Skinners subpar play in the first 3 games, but more so Skinners play. The importance of having consistent dependable goal-tending was fully on display in this final.... 3 first games Bobrovski was very good and Skinner was meh/ FLA won all 3 games ...next 3 games (3W EDM) Skinner played much better and Bobrovski went from MVP FINALS favorite to becoming the biggest threat to their cup chances.

Need to move on from Kane. Team is too old as is, and he is a power forward who turns 33 this offseason. His decline won't be pretty and it likely already started this year.

The Oilers are an old team, and they need to get younger if they want one more run with McDrai, as next year (if they don't trade Drai) is the last chance at that.

I'm not as convinced as some others seem to be that he's completely cooked, but I'd also move on from him this Summer if I could. Window is too small to take the risk and that cap space could be spent on a more sure bet.

Either way I don't see him waiving his NMC so it's all moot.

The NMC is a real thing, and I agree that he isn't going to waive it, so it doesn't much matter in truth.

This bothers me to no end. Massive missed opportunity by both the organization and Kane. The thing is, I’m trying to think of Kane’s perspective and if I was him. I would absolutely go for surgery to be 100%. From an Organization perspective- I would absolutely encourage Kane to get it done. The only thing I can think of that occurred is that neither Kane nor the organization was presented surgery as a solution

Based on what? Kane is more interested in the possibility of getting more playing time and getting another contract after this one. He saw his ice time dwindle last year and during the playoffs. I can totally see him waiving for a place like Chicago or Seattle where he would get prime offensive ice time and possibly extend his contract (after this one) ala Foligno. On the Oilers, Holloway is pushing him. Furthermore, Knoblauch doesn’t deploy a system that is dependent on physicality.

I agree, the only way I want Kane gone, is if there is truly a rift in the locker room, but I didn't believe those rumors when they came out, and I don't really believe them now either. I hope he gets healthy over the summer, and we keep him as a middle six winger for next year, along with adding a shooter to play with Leon. If we can sign some key UFA's, I'd be happy going into the season like this - it basically has us coming in with the same roster, with an upgrade on Foegele for the 2nd line, Perry out, and possibly a new 3RW and 4C so we can keep Brown and Janmark on that "4th" line and as pk specialists.

Nuge - McDavid - Hyman
Holloway/Kane - Draisaitl - New Guy (Sniper, like Toffoli)
Holloway/Kane - Henrique/New Guy - McLeod/Upgrade/Brown
Janmark - New Guy (or Ryan) - Brown
Ryan (ideally)

I'm not sure if Nuge Mcdavid pairing is good enough in crucial games.

If Kane is healthy he’s the best 5 on 5 scoring winger we have besides maybe Hyman who’s going to fall back to earth. I don’t see a point in trading. He had a 19 game goalless drought and still scored 24 goals without playing on the top pp unit. He’d be a prime candidate for a bounce back year.

100%, a healthy Kane was greatly missed during the playoffs. Would have been just what the Dr ordered against the Panthers. Still scored 20+ goals with his injury. Many others I prefer to jettison before him.

I'm willing to excuse him due to injury. But he wasn't great throughout the year. When exactly did this injury actually happen?

Can we expect more from Kane next or has he peaked? If he's peaked, 5M is alot for him unless he can get right.

We missed the 100 % Kane badly in the playoffs. Let's face it, he's had a string of bad luck. His cut wrist had nothing to do with "getting too old" and that set him back for pretty much the rest of the year. Had a tough year this year, but even our captain was suffering with injury the entire year, but not everyone is like McDavid. I'd like him to get his problems fixed and see what he can bring next year. As has been said, players with that size, strength, skating and shooting ability, and snarliness don't grow on trees, and to get one, you'll pay through the nose, or have to wait and develop them.

I think he has a NMC up to just before the next trade deadline. If this is the case he is going nowhere soon. Its fine, he needs to get healthy and if so is a positive. He brings something the team sorely lacks
