Proposal: Evander Kane Buyout

They would not, he has trade value so if they really wanted to part with him they could get something for him, he would also 100% be picked on waivers.

I do agree he has some value still even with the off ice issues

Kane has some value but i don't think theres many teams out there who would be willing to give up much. He's also being paid quite a bit so for a team to take that contract, Buffalo would probably have to take back a pretty brutal contract or 2 themselves.

The buy out period is over for the year

Exactly.

And the Sabres didn't have any players opt for arbitration, so they won't get that chance to buy out Kane, either.

So, it's either trade him or he's Sabres property for this season. I'm assuming that he would go unclaimed on waivers.

The player doesn't suck......

he has had a few off the ice issues.

I believe so---I haven't paid any attention to arbitration hearings......

IIRC There are two buy out windows---end of season to June 30th and if a team has multiple arbitration award cases in the summer they can do a buy out.

I was just suggesting it as on option considering all the "trade him" talk. Not sure about the buyout windows but if he becomes anymore trouble it's an option if you can't make a trade work.

He could be suspended for a year without pay. After that, Sabres can see if he's changed his ways.

According to Cap Friendly it wouldn't cost much cap room to just buyout Evander Kane.

Someone else can then take a flyer on him without giving up anything.
As a Canuck fan I don;t want him, especially if Benning is going to give up assets in return.

The buy out period is over until next summer, So either Murray needs to trade him or he's stuck for another season. Any ways he can't be bought out now period.

For the amount that the Sabres traded to get him (Kane and Bogosian for Myers, Stafford, Lemieux, Armia, late first rounder (St. Louis)) I would be willing to bet that the Sabres are not going to just dump him.

Plus when he is playing he is a very effective player. His points totals are not the very greatest but he is still a solid NHL player. It is just his off I've behaviour which is an issue.

Unless Buffalo has someone going to arbitration, that's correct. If they do have someone going to arbitration (I don't know) then there's a 2nd window that's open for buyouts.

That said, there's no way they buy him out. If things do not work out this season, he'll have 1 season left on his contract, and BUF likely wouldn't have an issue finding someone to take a 1 yr gamble.

Love how Murray made the worst trade in Sabres history. Bogosian was the better player and I knew this for a very long time.

I'd only give away a ten-year-old practice puck in return for him.

They wouldn't but off top top my head, the reasons they might are ;

1. He's not very good.
2. He's expensive for his production.
3. He's a low-quality human being

On the ice Kane is a very useful player, contract and all. All of his issues are off the ice.

Hope you don't have aspirations of being a NHL GM

Yeah don't know about that one.

I am guessing the OP is very young or new to hockey.

I dunno his contract is pretty long and not cap friendly. Plus with all the issues I can't see many buyers. His contract would be decent giving his potential and what not if he didn't have the on ice issues. But I'd be expecting a little more from a player on that contract given his age and time in the league

If Bogosian is good, then maybe the trade wasn't that bad?

It was an awesome trade. For Winnipeg. We got 5 players in the deal who will all be Winnipeg Jets. But Bogosian's good.

The op is a good idea, too bad about the window having come and gone for the year. Honestly, as vigorous and hard-working as Kane is on the ice, his IQ is so low that he really can't see to make anything out of his speed and strength.

On the flip-side, his off ice antics just keep going and going. If I was a Sabres fan, I'd want this guy as far away from my team and its young players as possible. Throwing him and his contract in the trash probably sends a stronger message than trading him for the peanuts you're going to get.

I think we're gonna wait and see how the legal issues turn out. Ultimately if he leaves this team, I think it will be through the expansion draft.

And lets be real here, I don't like Kane as a person, nor do I like what he's gotten himself into off the ice, but lets not act like Kane is going to impress his habits or attitudes on the rest of the team. I'm not concerned with who he is as a teammate (at least here in Buffalo) so much as I'm concerned with his legal issues and how this looks for the franchise.
