Player Discussion Evan Bouchard

I don't want to be debbie downer and I caught a lot of extended highlights because I couldn't watch the whole game, but was he as defensively horrible as he looked in the highlight package?

It was mostly Nurse actually. Nurse was directly at fault for the first goal. Didn't pressure on the 2nd goal, and was almost directly at fault for multiple other goals. Nurse was complete dog shit, one of the worst games I've ever seen him play truthfully.

I agree. Nurse was their least reliable defender by far.

Would Emberson fare better if given the same opportunity? I'm not so sure. But I do know that it's a big problem how many goals Nurse is on the ice (and directly responsible) for.

Something needs to give.

It's really incredible. Pull him away from Nurse, and he really seems fairly competent on defence.

HFOil- When you're consistently told that Nurse was only bad b/c of Ceci, but simultaneously are told Bouchard is bad b/c of Nurse

2 assists, casual 26:26 TOI, +3 and outshooting the Knights 12-2 at 5v5 while he was on the ice.

He's 41st among d-men all time in career playoff points. Of the 40 names ahead of him, only Bobby Orr has a higher career point/game in the playoffs.

Yeah, we just saw arguably the fourth best single game performance of the entire playoffs from this man...

And still Many posters will piss on him next time he is on the ice for a Goal against

He’s a lot closer to a top 5 D in the NHL than he is to an AHL one.

And he sure seems to play like a top 5 D in the playoffs

You also think he isn’t elite, low iq, slow puck mover.
I dunno man.

If you gave any d-man in the NHL Bouchard's minutes from the playoffs last year (highest in the NHL by 50 minutes - basically equalling an extra 2 full games played more than the 2nd-highest player), his EV strength minutes (highest in the league by 87 minutes, basically 4 full games worth of icetime) they also would have led the league in +/-, and set an all-time record for points by a defenceman.

He's clearly not that good.

He's elite, but anyone who gets his minutes is gonna have their gaffes. There are times in games when he's trapped on the ice for an extended shift and he's playing his 25th minute, against guys who are only playing their 8th minute. It's a recipe for disaster. it's like the 5th minute of reg-season OT when Draisaitl and MacDavid have been on the ice for 4 minutes. At some point you might just as well go stand behind the goalie and get ready to pull the puck out of the net.

So now what do you pay him?

He's a 10/11 million dman based on stats imo, but not on most nights, and he's soaking up McDrai points.

When it matters the most, he's been priceless, absolutely elite, which matters. Hard to put a dollar value on a player with such a wide range of play over a large sample

He is an elite dman that the Oilers have not had since Pronger and Coffey were are so lucky to have him 100% playoff beast
