Player Discussion Evan Bouchard

Being our best regular season D this season is a pretty low bar though, this was a pretty mediocre year across the board for our D, including Ekholm even before he was injured. Nurse was also sheltered from top players more, Bouch was still mainly fed the top competition all season.

Above average regular season, performing like a good 4-5M stay home D aside, this is when we need Nurse to step up and make a difference. For the 3rd playoffs in a row, dude looks clueless. He hasn't looked competent in the playoffs since he had a busted hip that forced him to stay on the defensive. Could probably get 3 Dmen at the cost of his caphit that all put up the same quality play or better.
whatever, he is averaging 25+ mins these playoffs and looked pretty good once removed from Bouchard.
Dont need to be a fan of his but there really is no point in bashing him.

Sure he may be overpaid by about 3-4 Million per but who cares in playoffs. Nurse at 9M per is going to help us in these playoffs more than and injured Ekholm at 6M.

Simply keep Bouch away from Nurse.
Walman Bouchard should be the top pairing.
what is this site?

Kulak - Bouchard looks much better than Walman-Bouch with eye test
Also curious about Nurse-Klinberg pairing, maybe we got something there.

keep him away from Nurse and he's usually fine

we got the entire Bouchard experience last night...awful in the first 2 periods, brilliant in the 3rd and OT
Case in point on King's 1st goal. Nurse has the puck behind the Oilers and is just looking down at the puck The play was a simple back pass to Bouchard on the other side to skate up and breakout of the zone , but Nurse with no game sense whatsoever wraps it around the board with a weak clear attempt that is intercepted and Moore scores . Nurse gives the puck away constantly, does not use his teammates, he even did the a stupid play in a 3on 3 OT instead of just circling back out with the puck and letting the forwards change he dumps the puck in

Indeed, dealing with sunk cost is our situation right now. It's on Knob for sure if he's gonna ice a clear disaster pairing.

Nurse without Bouch 5v5 is 40.4% xGF, and 0 GF 1 GA. And I for sure would still take that over what happens when they are together.

Bouch without Nurse is 71% xGF, but 3GF and 4GA. Assisted by a 0.730 sav%. Somehow just by Bouch being on the ice in that time his goalies were as good at stopping stuff as they are in a shootout. Maybe that was mostly Skinner fun time though, not sure how many of those were in games 3/4.

Not sure if you have seen Bouchard literally gifting the Kings goals against Skinner in games 1 and 2.

Can we do Skinner's save% with and away from Bouchard?

I dont think you are going to win the argument if you start listing out stupid plays by Nurse and Bouchard.

Definitely bad with all our offensive guys. McDrai 0.670, Bouch 0.740. 2 game sample, so the dif that separates these guys from the rest of the team is 1 goal against, like that Danault flopper late in game 1 when Knob decided it was a good idea to put out an exhausted group after we just tied the game.

Skinners xGF with Bouch was 64% (1.48 xGA/60) with actual result 33%. Nurse 46.60% xGF (2.56 xGA/60), 25% actual. Terribad goaltending makes for fun stats.

Agree. As a D you are taught really early on not to blindly throw it up the boards. Forecheckers know where it is going.
He had the option to reverse to Bouchard or tap in front to his centre. Should be reading options before you even reach the puck. He was under pressure, so easier for me to say from my couch than to execute at NHL speed. But something we coach kids at a young age to do.

Ya i don't agree with this at all. I was at the game and had a high view. It definitely gave a different perspective then what you see on TV. Bouchards breakouts are on a different level. It's actually mind boggling how much easier they transition the puck with vs any other dman

I wouldn't say a few bad reads should sum up his game last nite. He was excellent in all 3 periods imo.

Honestly, it was very reminiscent of a QB going thru his checkdowns of receivers. No other dman on our team does that. They take the first pass they see

Bouchard with the puck on his stick is rarely the problem (although his bobble on the 3-1 is a direct result of his indecision in the offensive zone, then doesn't get back in time) it's his reads when defending
the 1-0 goal was he backing off for no apparent reason
the 2-0 was Nurse losing his brain and allowing Foegele to be wide open, not really his fault
and I already mentioned the 3-1 goal

but again, he completely made up for it in the 3rd and OT

Think the first one, that 2 on 1 around him was created so fast he just instinctively played it like a 2 on 1 leaving the shooter to shoot and trying to cover Foegele and just prevent Moore from being able to skate across the front of the net.

There was a forward near Foegele too but Bouch was still the guy right by him when the puck came off the boards with Nurse and our forward standing watching. Bouch couldn't have expected Perry to automatically cover Foegele if Bouch stepped up and let Foegele jump behind him. Possible Bouch didn't even know Perry was there. That was a pretty garbage situation for us to allow to be created off the boards from a scrum.

No doubt, it has been lots of bad stuff over and over with Bouch+Nurse together.

He’s a lot closer to a top 5 D in the NHL than he is to an AHL one.

And he sure seems to play like a top 5 D in the playoffs

You also think he isn’t elite, low iq, slow puck mover.
Where were all you guys before his last two games? Where were you when he was dogshit all season long and everybody wanted his head? Sure he saved our season, but he was just as close to losing it.

He's an extremely frustrating up and down player that is nowhere near a top 5 defensemen in the NHL.

So you think he played like a AHL d this year?
