Player Discussion Evan Bouchard

Skinner is going to take the heat for that one cuz of how goofy of a goal it was, but my god if Bouchard put any degree of effort into boxing Foegele out there either Stu would’ve seen it was flubbed and been able to adjust or the puck hits one of the two players who’s in front of the net. Instead he’s standing off to the side covering absolutely nobody letting Foegele do whatever he wants to impede the goalie. Just zero awareness.
If I let that puck get by me, I'm blocking the shot with my face - if that is what is needed. Instead, he just stood there.

I agree that Bouchard has elite capability. He has been able to find that level.
He is a good offensive dman who can temporarily raise his game.

The problem is that he cant sustain that level and when his game drops off it falls off a cliff.
So IMO until he can sustain a consistent level of play he isnt an elite dman.

He sure as hell shouldnt get paid like one either.
He will because they have Nurse over 9m. That sets the standard. That’s why the nurse contract is such a massive failure. At the time, a 6-6.5m deal would have been fair for both sides. A 9.25m NMC, buyout proof deal is insane and it’ll continue to hurt this team when Bouchard demands 11 because of it.

Bouchard needed to do a better job on the 6th goal. Wow. Your team fights back and you screw up.
Do we expect any different? he's been doing it all year long. Even in the post game presser Knobs couldn't say anything because we don't have enough bodies to play.

TBH i'm just sad right now, we have all waited almost a year for this and it's going to be over in the blink of an eye. I feel like my gut has been ripped out of me.

The LAK are dangerous and Bouchard is terrible. Bad combo

On Natural Stat Trick he is credited with 4 giveaways last night, double any other player on the ice. And as far as I can tell it is not attributing that behind the net pizza to the slot to him. Just shockingly bad in his own end. Cannot under any circumstance pay him 9+, as McJadedog outlined.

I woke up this morning seething.

f***ing stayed up till past 1am to watch a mindbending performance by McDavid to be completely unravelled by a f***ING SIEVE WE KNEW WE NEEDED TO UPGRADE ON FOR f***ING YEARS.

Bowman had ONE f***ing job, and he sat on his f***ing ass and did f*** all "sorry the acquisition cost was too expensive.. let me trade for an injured player instead".

YOU f***ING COCONUT.

If John Gibson were in net, we would have won 5-3 (And I'm being generous with that third goal).

Unfortunately, the way the team is constructed Bouch is a necessarry evil. We just desperately need puck movers. Cant see us letting him go.

I am still a big fan of the player we saw last year and the few years prior. This version of the player not so much. Think we just have to stick with him and pray he finds his last year form. Dont think benching or not re-signing him is an option for the team .

The issue is his asking price is 11M which is more like 10M. He's closer to 6M at this point with all the flaws he brings defensively. He's putting the Oilers in a tough spot.

Knoblauch ch shouldn't have had him out there.

Get to overtime and give your big guns time to rest.

Knoblauch lost that game.

*think it's obvious which 3 lines are McDrai and Bouch

Seriously, what was he thinking playing them again right after we tied the game? Drai, McDavid and Bouch played like 80% of the last 10 minutes of the game before that.

Should have been counting blessings and told the guys to calm down and play smart and not get too hyped up. Instead we keep going all out and allow an odd man rush. A rush that forwards with some energy still could have came back to mess with Danault before his flubbed shot.

Knob was the master of picking the right players for games and adjustments last playoffs, until the finals at least when he put Nurse and Ceci back together to give us the worst possible start to the finals. He better get his crap together quick.

If a team wants to Offer sheet him for that amount, I would gladly take the picks and cap space.
This team is done like dinner if they give Bouchard 10 million to not play D and just try to put up points.

A player who makes that much needs to be the guy to carry the pair, not be baby say, but I have zero faith in our management (which is normal around here)

If we get the Bouchard that played in the 2nd half of last year and the playoffs I am all in on him. This years Bouchard has been nothing short of a disastrous train wreck defensively and he is well past the leaning out years of a developing D.

What I do is trade him this off season for a less dynamic offensive but far more capable defender like Noah Dobson off the Islanders. Let Lou figure out how much to pay him.

Dobson would probably still get a ton of 2nd assists in similar fashion to Bouchard but prevent a lot of the unforced errors that result in goals against.

Dobson doesn't seem to be a whole lot different according to Islander fans.
They're very similar players, but Dobsons offensive regression this year was pretty alarming to them but the brainfarts are still there.

Islanders seem to want younger and cheaper, and they feel that giving Dobson his inevitable ask is going to be a mistake as well. I don't imagine they'd want anything to do with Bouch.

Where’s this notion that Dobson is some capable defender? They’re essentially the same player defensively

I understand the idea in theory to trade him for another young-ish dmen. I just dont know how many young dmen, who would be available have no flaws in there game. If there is the perfect trade out there sure, but I find that again, to be a hard need to thread.

We are in a tough situation with Bouch right now. He is the one asset right now that if we f*** up, could slam this window shut.

I forgot the last time we saw Kulak at the end of the game, was he hurt!?!? And Nurse barely played at the end too. Great they tied it up but Knob screwed up again with the decision to put his most tired and least defensive players on the ice. They work really well when they can pull a goalie and have an extra player. We were lucky with all the empty net misses.

Bouch sucked for 95% of the game.

I agree with you...The Nurse contract is a major issue.
I have been posting about how bad the Nurse contract is since he signed it.
The only $9.25M player that kills the play virtually every time the puck is on his stick.

I think you keep him if his ask is reasonable long term or he agrees to a bridge.

He had 3 secondary assists last night and two primary assists on Kings goals.

Like what's the point here?
