Definitely agree. One of my friends is on the same page, it's refreshing to discuss this with him as opposed to the seeming majority of oilers fans that seem to think he's an awful defenceman.

Lmfao. McDavid, Draisaitl, Kucherov, MacKinnon, and Pastrnak are all frequently top 10 in the NHL for giveaways and they're arguably the 5 best forwards in the game today. The Hughes brothers, Hedman, Doughty, Karlsson, Carlson, Burns, Keith, Subban, Letang, Rielly, Theodore, Chabot, Weegar, Crosby, Malkin, Thornton, Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Barzal were also often high on the giveaways list during their best years and many still are.

Giveaways are not only not a sign of low IQ, it's actually a sign that a player dominates possession and drives offensive play because the puck is always on their stick. They are some of the best playmakers in the game. The only time it's a problem is if you're like Karl Alzner, Adam Larsson, Esa Lindell, Joel Edmundson etc and among league leaders in giveaways without generating any offense to compensate.


Bouchard's turnovers are so bad that he's 2nd in the entire NHL for 5v5 xGF% among defensemen with over 500 minutes and he causes so many high danger chances against that he's 4th in the entire league for 5v5 HDCF%. Yeah he's caused some goals against but so has every single top tier playdriving defenseman in the game and most of them can't generate the offense Bouchard does to make up for it. Your eye test is useless and the fact that you think Parayko is better than Bouchard is proof of that.

Also hilarious that you bring up Brian Burke as an appeal to authority when he frequently acquired pylon defensemen during his stint on the Leafs and the Flames. Heck the only time he saw success was when he was gifted giveaway leader mainstays Chris Pronger and Scott Niedermayer.

Defending Bouchard last year was acceptable. Defending Bouchard this year just proves you are bias and out of touch with reality.

Hockey Canada is absolutely blind. If anything choosing Parayko and Pietrangelo over Bouchard and Weegar is a testament to Bouchard's on-ice impact. This is the same group who selected Beau Akey over Carter Yakemchuk and Zayne Parekh, and a bunch of talentless grinder forwards over the likes of Misa, Cristall, and Sennecke leading to a disastrous World Junior exit. Bouchard can not only be trusted to make simple plays, he can also be trusted to carry the team's transition game and possession game all the way to a Stanley Cup Final.

As for Makar and Hughes nobody here said he's better than them? We're saying he's better than Colton f***ing Parayko lol.

How many times a game does Bouchard hit a player in full flight in the neutral zone, or gets the puck in the neutral zone and hits McDavid or Draisaitl for an immediate re-entry. In the end of the day what matters is the ratio of good to bad. In Bouchard's case that slants far to the side of good.

You do know Bouchard creates WAY WAY more than he gives up right? Canada was generating nothing because they can’t move the puck through the middle of the ice. Bouchard is probably the best in the league at it. His passing is elite

Bouchard has not been terrible this year. Anyone who thinks that watches a couple of weak defensive plays on TSN and bases their opinion off that.

Yes he needs to clean it up in the defensive zone. His PP scoring his down. He's still scoring at an elite rate and is so far on the positive side of basically every metric that anyone saying he's anything less than a number one defenceman is completely delusional.

I agree that he was better last year though.

Wouldn't most oiler fans know how to spell a coaches name? And a legend of the team.

Theres far more analytics out there that show Bouchard is a huge positive when hes on the ice, you just choose to only focus on his couple of mistakes. You also dont seem to understand that players who have the puck alot, have more turnovers, especially players who actually try to make plays.

Bouchard at 24 set the record for defenceman scoring in the playoffs. Not only that- his metrics- the actual f***ing data points- show he is elite. His zone exits are amongst the best in the league. I’ve posted his numbers here before. If you want to argue with actual facts- bring them- not your biased opinion. We get it you don’t like him
