He’s not Scott Stevens and never will be. If you can’t appreciate what he does well - which is pretty much everything else - that’s your blind spot.
Just about created another goal with a fantastic slap pass too. He generates a hell of a lot more than he gives up.

As a Habs fan, I wouldn't trade Guhle or Hutson one-for-one for him, let alone considering the fact that Bouchard will need a new contract soon

He’s such a mixed bag. Terrible defensively and great offensively, especially on the PP with McDrai. Reminds me a bit of Barrie.
I think he has the Oilers over a barrel as they have no choice but to re sign him. Similar to the Nurse situation as it will likely be a significant overpay.

100%, but that's why people likely wouldn't want to pay 11 mill for someone who does offensive really well, but getting into his own end he looks terrible as shit.
You usually want to be able to play the dman in all situations if you're paying that much.

He’s hasn’t been ass though. He hasn’t been at the same level as last year, but even “bad” he’s pacing for 50 points and creates more than it gives up.
As an Oilers fan I wouldn’t remotely consider trading him for Guhle or Hutson. Not even with a sizeable plus, and that’s ignoring positional needs too. All things considered even Guhle AND Hutson might not be enough, when you take his playoff performances into account.
Bouchard now with 1+1 in the first against Ottawa, BTW.
Not a player to spend 9 million + on. Very good at the areas he does excel at however.

Bouchard not starting this year like he finished last year probably gets that number down to 8-9.5, somewhere in there, which is fine. Also it’s a negotiation. Player starts high, team starts low, they meet in the middle. It’s how it *always* goes.
Bouchard plays ~25 minutes a night. Edmonton’s not shy about putting him out against anyone and usually he comes out ahead.

I understand that you’ve probably forgotten that playoffs are important but no we’re not trading our top pairing RD for lesser options from a rebuilding team. We want a cup and we almost got there with Bouchard playing a key role.

Nurse is the problem there, not Bouchard.
We will cross that bridge when we come to it. We’ll always have offers like whatever spare part bums and overrated bottom pairing D Habs fans want to throw our way if he doesn’t live up to the deal.
Nurse is today’s problems and Bouchard are tomorrow’s. That’ll be a long, long bridge to cross

That’s fine, anyone with any idea of what players are actually worth would rather cross that bridge with a guy that’s earned a big payday - like Bouchard has. If it did come to trading him, we’d be aiming a lot higher than anyone on Montreal’s blueline - which WILL be good, but isn’t today. They’d all be downgrades, to a man, despite winning one game against an Oiler team that didn’t bother showing up.
Cap’s going up and Edmonton will have have space. You make it work to keep a guy like Bouch.

It means this season, his team isn't scoring goals when he's on the ice, and the team is leaking goals against when he's on the ice. Chances are that won't continue.
The Oilers are out shooting and out scoring-chancing teams at the same rate this season with him on the ice as they did last season when he was on the ice.

Defence, to some, is going crash crash bang bang and letting lots of shots hit your shinpads.
The smarter players keep the puck as far from their net as possible, keep it in the opposing zone, create shots and chances and tire out the other teams and make THEM block shots and run around their zone. That’s what Bouchard excels at.

I've always thought of him as Tyson Barrie on steroids.
Aye, the better option is to keep being a bottom 5 team. Cant overpay a player if none of them are any good!
